I mounted my 8274 where the cable and my Warn 73850 hawse fairlead come out just under the bumper rather than through it..Lowers the top of the winch down a bit so it doesn't block radiator air flow. Got a thick steel cradle it sits in so it's protected nicely underneath.

That front end rivals Mr. T with all those chains! :)

And have the bezel police not corrected you?

Planetary winches are lower profile than the spur gear 8274 but the old school look of the 8274 is perfect for a 40 IMO. The 8274 still holds the fastest line speed record. Planetary winches are painfully slow in comparison.

looks good ,
warn used to make a nice 8274 mount for on top of the 40 frame rails ,
worked good i always thought it looked cool .it did block a lot of air flow through the rad though and didn't fit with a Saginaw power steering setup
anybody have pics of the old warn mount ,i have it but i cut it up to drop it down in between my frame rails and clear my sag box .love these 8274's

Here are two more. The one on the left was new in 08 and has yet to be used. I got it last year still in the box. The one on the right has seen lots of action.
