Following along on your painting career. If you don't mind post up some pictures of your paint booth. I'm thinking of doing some painting myself and interested in how you make a removable paint stall. Need to get some 55s in your shop! :)

Was wondering if you were going to paint it your pretty handy might as well

Looking awesome as always Stan!. And nothing better than new tools/parts day!

Thanks guys, I have painted a bit in my past, mostly over 1,000 radio controlled helicopter canopies. A big chunk of which was a deal with a Japanese company called Hirobo. I met the owner at an RC show in Toledo and we struck a deal. A few trucks, cars, and boats thrown in for good measure.

I purchased what is called a masking machine, hardly a machine in my definition but I digress. Holds 4 sizes of masking paper and the tape is applied to the paper as you unroll both. No more laying out paper and applying tape by hand. $59.00 makes it something I should have purchased ten years ago :) He who dies with the most tools wins, I am way behind.

Spraying on the paint is the easy part. All the prep work before you get there is the real work. Words from an instructor when I went to school for this stuff back in the 70s
"When you think you've sanded it enough and it is smooooooooth. Sand it again!

This one has been here for about four years, it belongs to a buddy. There are some serious plans for it. No idea when it will happen but Max keeps an eye on it. Had another one here for some work a couple months back, owned by a friend in ONSC, now another club member owns it.

Nice work. I like this build.

Thank you

All but the tail gate and hatch are sanded and primed. While sanding I deduced that there are 87 acres of body on a 60 series.

No real planned "stages" with the primer, idea was to stay ahead of flash rust. Happens over night this time of year.

There was about 3/8" of bondo in this just to get it almost flat. It is supposed to crown about 1/4" or so.

Pulled out nicely.

Well at least it was just a dent... I did the same thing last night at the end of the lower rear fender where the bumper cap is. One spot looked like it was just surface rust, only to find that it was 12" worth of rust (that one spot was just surface rust though) and about a pound of bondo. So ended up spending hours recreating that little dent/divet where the bumper cap is...

This truck is getting a color change so that means the doors have to come off to do the jambs. Taking doors off without someone or some thing to support the weight of the door can lead to tweaked hinges and zero fun during assembly. So I purchased a tool I had seen used a couple times, it needed a little tweaking itself before use.

A little scrap angle iron and some time at the drill press and we are in business.

Made the job a breeze.

Yeah, and in the next pictures it is all painted to match. Just another testament to your attention to detail and commitment to do things right.

All jambs on body and doors have been sanded out and primed!!!
I sand, therefore I am

Frack makes sure all is in order. He's the most forward of the three new shop cats, taunts Max the shop dog already.
