i just bought a 1985 ex cab toyota pickup i dont know much about it cuz i am deployed and my dad drove it and said it was good. all i know is that he said it hasa 6 in. suspension lift and i little rust onthe bed no bad dents and i paid 1500 for it and i was wondering if i got ripped off oh yeah and it has had a newer 22r motor put in it i went in my buddies 82 toyota to colorado b4 we deployedand we went crawling and i never had so much fun just wondering what yall would do to the truck thx

Call me a grouch, but you should have spent the money on english/grammar lessons. Damn.

85 Toyota.... Well a text book crawler would be, 5.29 diff gears (If you're going 35's or bigger with the meats), an Aussie locker in the back, a Marlin 4.7:1 transfer case, and a high steer set up up front. From there you'll want armor, and things to make wheeling more fun like CB, and winch etc...

Wait, you think a CB makes wheeling more fun? I hate wheeling with people who don't have 2M. The CB is so unrefined.....

I would avoid the 5.29s personally due to a small pinion. I try not to cast others opinions until they have proven true to my eyes and I have seen 5.29s break on a few occasions. I have broken 4.88s as well but I was being stupid! I agree with needing pics and more info as for the grammar I must be a lazy redneck as well because i got the point :hillbilly: But my answer to your question is gears gears and gears I dont care if you put them in your t-case or thirds you need gears to be totally satisfied.

Yep, best upgrade other than lockers! Is it IFS or Solid? You can do a RUF easy, lift springs or Chevy 63's in the rear, 5.29, lockers, 4.7, hysteer and be done with it... For the most part :)

I agree 5.29's have a small pinion, but when setup correctly they should last.

I personally would run 5.29s. Set the BL tight, run a good pattern, and call her good.

A crawl box is definatly is a must. And being so inexpensive now($299 from marlin?), that would be my first mod. :cheers:

thanks guys i am tryin to get pictures and more info its hard cuz i am deployed and internet sucks but i am working on that and my english but should have pictures in about a week but yall are right i dont know much at all about this stuff thanks again

yeah I should...

YOUR A GROUCH!:flipoff2::lol::D

The professor has a point regarding your grammar. Nobody expects a masterpiece, but it has to be intelligible. And that's "You're a grouch" not "your" ...

Spread the gear reduction throughout the driveline, don't just concentrate on the transfer case. If you care how your rig drives on the street, be sure to match your ring and pinion ratio to your tire size.

I used a solid spacer on my 5:71's and they worked fine. So great in fact, they out lasted the rest of the truck, i took them out and put them in my next rig. The secret is setting them up right. It might take all day, but don't stop screwing around with them untill the backlash, rolling torque and gear pattern are perfect. I used those trucks stricly in the mud, and only minimal rock crawling. Big tires and lockers don't break parts... shock loads break parts
