I'm conducting a search for a nice Troopy. The perfect candidate would be a LHD stock survivor or lightly refreshed original in great shape. Prefer a gas engine, but not totally opposed to a diesel. I needs to be original as possible. Either a well maintained original or one that has been lightly restored back to specs. Rust buckets need not apply :)

Budget - sweet spot is $30K but everything depends on the truck. Could be more or less.

You can PM me or email overton@aol.com.

Much appreciated!

There was one for sale awhile ago in the for sale section . It was from Saudi Arabia and bone stock. Last post I had read mentions it is in Montana . Asking was 25-26k...LHD and gas.

I see this one on eBay. I've seen it recently but cannot recall where I saw it. It was a considerable less money. Looks like the are trying to sell it while it's still in Costa Rica (Ugh) Doesn't look like 55K in my book. Missing emblems, spare tire carrier, even the shift knob has no shift pattern. For $55K, go ahead and spend $200 to finish it.

1980 Toyota Land Cruiser DIESEL Troopy / Troop Carrier - FJ40 FJ45 | eBay

I have seen this one. This truck was on eBay as well. Too neglected. I'm looking for something turnkey and nice.
Thanks!

Gotcha ...yes , these days getting that beauty ready for DD would be a large project...but rust would be your last concern unless it was stored in a septca .

I'm looking for RHD or LHD Troopy if I can ride this listing with *overton

Searchtempest is a good tool for scouring craigslist ads all over the country and thats how I often find interesting offers. Quite a few troopies for sale can be found using gumtree Australia and all those will be right hand drive. The US Dollar is still stronger than the AUD so factor in about a 21% discount on purchase price but remember to add in a RORO cost for getting it home and any import paperwork fees....should be easy as they can be found over 25 years old.

For LHD trucks you should look in Europe...I saw a newer troopie parked on the street in Amsterdam recently....though it wasnt for sale. Also South America and Saudi Arabia but I have no idea what buying and shipping from there is like. From what I have read RORO's from Europe are pretty easy and reasonable on the wallet.

Just did a quick search for "Land Cruiser" with a max date of 1984 and these came up (no affiliation):

1983 LAND CRUISER HJ47 TROOP CARRIER 4X4 SUV: SUPER RARE RESTORED!

1982 FJ43 Toyota Land Cruiser

And as always Buyer Beware. Do your research, be smart.

FYI, that is not an HJ47 unless it has lost the diesel. FJ45 is more like it.

Rattle can over rust all over the chassis. I guess that is a "refurbish".

Cheers

Based on the OEM tach (with swapped out gauge) & the momentary switch on the dash (usually a manual Glow switch), I'm guessing this was an HJ47 originally, but has had the 2F swapped in. Based on a strict reading of the rules of import, that could cause problems for a future owner. Not super likely to happen, but if you ran into a stickler at the DMV, they could require you to put a 2h back into it before transferring title & licensing. Seems unlikely, but it is a possible problem future buyers should at least know about & take into consideration I think.

I also think a person should bid cautiously on that BAT Troopy right now, unless you can inspect it in person first. It looks really nice, but there have been a lot of incorrect statements made. The could be honest mistakes, but they sure look to be trying to inflate the perceived value. That just makes me worry about what else might not be accurately portrayed. Having said all that, if it turns out to be as nice as it looks, it is worth every penny of the asking price I think.

If your pockets are deep enough, FJ Company has three left hand drive Troopys in hand right now. To LHD Fj45 soft tops, & one LHD 84 BJ45 Hard Top. But hey won't sell without a restoration, so they are probably over 100k in the end.

End of the day, if you are looking for a LHD, 2F Troopy, you are basically talking about KSA, or somewhere else in the middle east. Those trucks tend to be pretty pricey since they are expensive in country (highly prized still), and also clean once they get here, and generally speaking sourcing goods out of rich countries tends to cost a lot.

It’s ( Gr8ful) hasn’t been active on here for a while?

Also, I'm Abe's wife Erica! Nice to meet you all! Long story short, his job got complicated & really busy the summer before last, so he decided he needed to table most cruiser stuff until things got back to normal, as he didn't have time for everything & the job pays the bills. We assumed then, it would be couple/few months. I got on here a few months ago to help be active & at least have some presence, since work is stlll crummy for him.
