Anyone ever make a vehicle mounted camp shower enclosure? Something like the one in the picture, but not ghetto?

It would be cool if you could hang your solar shower off your roof rack and have a shower curtain ring that also attached to the rack.

The freestanding ones seem nice but some are a bit huge, flimsy and will take off in the wind. Also, I'm not sure if you can hang a solar shower inside them can you?

That's awesome! What's supporting the ring, is it attached to the roof rack?

Shower hanger

I don't have a pic. of my shower curtain holder because it was a real pain. It was suspended from the RR on the Sammy and every time a little wind blew you ended up with the curtain going everywhere, so we eventually just waited until it was really dark and showered without it!!! The solar shower hanger was made with a small receive type hitch on the RR and the solar shower bracket slipped into it. Worked great.

On the 60 we use a Aussie pop-up privy ($40 from Cabela's/BassPro) and suspend the solar shower from the RR.

Note: it's important to have a inspiring location for the privy....

Good luck

I decided to craft my own as well at first... But experienced the same problem as other poster mentioned - bottom of the curtains will lift will the smallest winds or invade your space by blowing into you.
This year I went with the shower shelter from cabella's and love it (very sturdy construction!) Shelter/Hot-water set-up was good enough to get my sweety to start camping at remote campgrounds away from all amenities.

Hey, the ghetto shower in the first picture works great and recycles stuff that's in the vehicle anyway... tarp, shovel, rope etc.

Some of you folk try to hard to bring your home to the bush. Heading out for a few weeks or more and you realize the need to prune down on all the extra cr@p that you're tempted to take along - or end up having to tow a trailer.

IMO, hooking a heat exchanger, pump etc into the vehicle just adds a bunch of extra stuff that can leak and f'up. You're camping, so what if it takes an hour to warm up a solar bag or you have to boil some water in a pot to raise the temp to a comfy level. What's the rush?

I'll be using the same ghetto shower setup in about 1 month's time when I head back to oz for 4 weeks with about 2 planned in the bush....

I've just bought an inline gravity water filter, so the solar shower will become the 'dirty' water carrier as well and thus will do double duty.

Here's the actual thread that the ghetto shower comes from (2 week trip):

2 week trip to the Kalgoorlie Goldfield area

cheers,

Great looking trip George!! I am with you on the less is more rationale. However, once you throw wife and daughters in on the trip a few more comforts are needed.

What part of Oz will you be on in your next trip?

Yeah, toughen 'em up :)

I have 2 boys, so that's not an issue. I took my wife for a 2 week trip in the oz bush prior to us getting married so she had a pretty good idea what she was getting into in terms of camping :) Since the kids have been >10yrs old she's been happy for the 3 boys to go camping on their own...

I'll be heading to the same general area, I'm from Perth and have a house/vehicles etc there, so only natural that's the home base for heading bush when I'm back there. The oz bush is so much different from here in the US (west coast compared to west coast), not refueling and stocking food (or being able to) for 500+ miles is very common place. Water is at a huge premium, so showers etc are something that happens when you happen upon water (typically rock outcrops or the odd wind mill).

cheers & good luck on your female friendly camping endeavours :)

Now think about it. When you're by yourself it may be a little much but when you're with a group of 20 those few items and unlimited supply of water can make a dirty dusty trip into one of comfort. As long as there is gas in the cruiser and a stream to pull water from. Which here in the south isn't a problem. I can have unlimited hot water. That means more than just having a bag of luke warm water over your head spitting water at you. That means 5gpm of water any temp you want it for as long as you want it. And as far as stuff. I don't have to worry about hauling 5 gallons of water around with me that can leak. In the winter time well that bag just plain ain't going to work. Plus if I lose hot water at the house I can just plug the cruiser in.

So IMO you might want to think about the location and application of use before condemning the whole thing. ;)

Yep, that's why I said water is at a "huge premium" in the oz bush. Stream.... ha ha ha.... if we could find those readily out there, then I'd take a bath tub along :)

cheers,
george.
