Stopped at Home Depot and figured I’d pick up another 1/2” drill bit since I left my box with 100+ bits at my sons house out in Langford.

$28-30 for a 1/2” bit. Not a set of bits… just for one bit. I’m starting to wonder what they’re smoking. I know they gold coloured, but gold plated I don’t need.

I went home and realized I’ve got a set of step bits that were much less for three stepped bits two of which are 1/2” max and one that’s 3/4” max.

Nothing wrong with a good stick welder… back in ‘96 I paid a NHRA certified welder to weld my motor mounts to my frame. He didn’t use no Tig welder… stick all the way. They ain’t going nowhere. The truck and frame may rot away eventually, and they’ll still be attached there.

I weld, but am not a welder. $60 well spent for peace of mind. How times have changed… $60 will barely cover the cost of a couple large packs of toilet paper now… or dinner for one.

Too brittle.

I have thousands of bits including step bits but they are only good for 1/8 inch thick sheet or thinner. If someone’s doing any real drilling they use a proper sized bit.

I’m about to purge a few hundred dull drill bits if anyone has a bit sharpener or is skilled with a grinder.

Bench grinder, angle grinder, chop saw, Dremel… never used a bit sharpener, but I suppose they could work.

Will you be around in a couple hours?

1/8”… I guess that’s why they were complaining about 1/4” wall box steel yet went through frame crossmembers like a hot knife through butter.

Drill bit sharpeners, expensive but work great!

It can also be done with a grinder well, the bit never cuts as well as new but it can be sharpened down to a nub and continue to cut!

This 3/4 I have sharpened an inch or more off over manny years with a grinder and it still drills well!

Organizing this pile has been on my to do list for a long long time. I plan on getting a 1 inch thick brick of steel by several feet and drilling sized holes, 2 for each drill bit size, standard and metric.

These things are pretty good for keeping them organized.

Way too sharp of a heel/flank cutting edge.

$1850 obo cowl frame axles.

Not sure if this is the right place, but it is in my books.
