Dragging this old seat out of storage and propping it up for pics, I inhaled some dust. Yech. I hope it’s not hantavirus.

Above you can see the new SOR upholstery. Beautiful!

This is the bottom of my spare driver seat. Am I missing a spring or tension rod?

This is a photo I copied from an eBay set. That big spring seems to be what I’m missing.

I’ve got to organize a work space in my heated garage, and the get rolling on this project.

The metal gidgies in the third photo are a mystery to me. What are they for?

My seat had the lever return spring like the pic you posted. Are you going to reuse the stock cushion springs or switch to foam? Reason I ask is, I saved some springs in case anyone ever needs some.

As for the small spring steel clips. I’d guess they are for holding springs in place. I think @thecrazygreek @oregon fj @bb67tlc all have used sor bench seat kits. They might know

I think the way the SOR kit works is you re-use all the steel, including the springs. You top it with foam (included in the kit) and cover it with the vinyl.

Ahh I see, thin layer of foam on top of the springs. I ended up having an upholstry guy do my seats. Some of my cushion springs were clapped out or broken. So I agreed to let him do what he normally does. He didn’t use the springs, just all foam.

Did your driver seat easily adjust? Mine didn’t, so I pulled the tracks apart. It was a bugger but I’m glad I did that before uphholstery.

Just an FYI - For my truck, I am not disassembling every bit of the truck, and sandblasting and primering and painting and powdercoating. For the most part, I'm simply preserving what I have. In the coming posts, you'll notice new upholstery going on to battle-scarred metal. Try not to be offended. I'm thinking folks like @wngrog will get what I'm after.

Damn skippy.

I used the SOR foam and Cruiser Corps covers. I left the springs intact but it took some stretching and pulling to get them to fit properly. I'm very happy with the end result and it wasn't hard, but it took a lot more effort than I thought it would.

Here is a pic from under my front seat that shows the spring you were referring to:

Best seat covers in terms of quality and price. CCOT seems to imply theirs is the best available in quality and fit

You seem to be asking: What are the best seat covers for the money? My answer: I don't know.

I bought SOR because they sell a complete kit, including foam. Cruiser Corps has nice covers, but with their kit, I'd have to source foam somewhere else. I asked around about what foam thickness to get, but could not get any answers.

I didn't know that CCOT had a kit for my truck.

So in the end, I went with SOR. They have this nice coral color, and it was on sale.
