There's no zirk in the front spider on the front prop shaft - that can't be good

They've been neglected for a very long time, and I suspect they're contributing to some vibrations. :whoops:

Is it smart to order and replace them all at once, or is that a waste of money - just pull shafts and see which ones really need replacing now?

Unless anyone can recommend better, I'll replace with Toyota - thoughts?

Other than heat, vice,
Picked this lil puppy today and all I can say is WOW, best ever cordless work light I have ever used...http://www.cliplight.com/automotive/lighting/hemi-series/hemiplus/
and , are there any other special tools I should have ready?

Thanks,
-Steve

Just don't lose the annoying little bearings... you'll need 2 14mm wrenches and a hammer/mallet (to break the shaft free if its stuck good)

Note that lots of uJoints don't include a zerk... so unless you are sure it used to be there I'd just check for play in the joints. Jack truck up and see if theres any play in any of the joints. Usually its easy to tell if the U joint is dead.

Ya just get all 4 and be done with it. You can get them at Lordco... Not that expensive if I recall.

I'd give them a little wiggle and see if there is any play . I wouldn't change them if they are good .Generally you can tell there is something wrong if they are bad enough to cause a vibration . Seems like a waste of time and money ? Toyota u-joints are extremely durable .

Steve, mine tested fine while attached to the truck, but when I took them out, they were actually ****ed. Nearly all needles had fallen out of 2 of the caps.

Also, as discussed, don't forget the 2 tarps to simulate a shop.

hmm - they don't wiggle at all that I can tell when I'm under the truck - but maybe I'm not wiggl'n hard enough - I do have some vibration though :frown: - I'll put on stands and see if I can detect any wheel bearing play

other ideas?

Thanks!

Put it up on 4 jackstands, put in drive and see where the vibration is. We did that with Andrews truck and it was obvious (driveshaft was wobbling around). You might have a bent drive shaft.

Good luck.

Sounds familiar to something I said before.... about a different vehicle.

Did you check if your tires are all tight? :flipoff2:

Plus, you get to do this...

Me;), I would pull the front drive shaft and take it for a run and see if it goes away.

I would sse Toyota OEM - they last and have zerks ~$50 out of the US. The ones that falling apart are cheaper of course and likely aftermarket Lordco specials.
