Turning the engine by hand?

It's been a 100° with a heat index of a million for the last week... so I havent adjusted my valves yet.

Hopefully I can take care of it this weekend. Thanks for all the input.
 
Remove spark plugs. Block the wheels, put transmission in neutral. Find a ½ drive socket and breaker bar that will fit on end of alternator pulley. From the front of your vehicle turn the bar to the right. Usually the pulley will slip inside the alternator belt. Use your left hand to turn the breaker bar and your right hand to push down on the belt to take out some of the slack generated from turning the alternator belt. The motor will turn over very easy. The pulley bolt is much tighter than you will be turning the engine so do not worry about over tightening the alternator pulley nut. This method is so much easier than some of the other methods mentioned above. Try it----you will never go back.

I also do what @Suntreemcanic suggests. Simple…and works.
