Got travel?

Few feet worth in progress....going where no FJ has gone before....

I could of made my life easier and just bought a Tacoma or something but what fun would that be?

First time seeing her droop .... Kinda had to laugh.

I must be crazy. It's going be a wild ride. You think my links are long enough? Trophy FJ Lives!

That is of course nowhere near full droop.

Officially #4linked !!Drooped out a bit for the first time...still a lot of work to do but good to see the pieces of the puzzle come together...
I feel like a 10 year old kid on Christmas. Guys at desertconcepts keep killing it. ...this has only been done once before on the Donahoe racer but never like this.....

55" Links give us about 2:1 ratio.... 14" Coilover and 16" bypass should end up around 28" rear travel!! We'll see where we strap it at...

desertconcepts crew making her worthy of her nickname.... I can't wait to drive this....to say I'm excited is an understatement...

The beast is sleeping, but she is going be pissed when she wakes up. Better grab that steering wheel and hold on.... The guys at the shop don't need the lisc. Plate to remind them what they are building anymore. Take one look at that rear end as you walk up to it and when you see the lisc. Plate it's no surprise. In case you were wondering, yes she will be my daily driver. Vented trophy truck hood courtesy of @deft.racing

Yes it will be a SEMA 2017. Desert Concepts will have a big booth.....but it might end up in another.....way to early to confirm....but it will be there....

Photo Taken on the day I dropped off the truck and we started to rip parts off and all of a sudden I took a step back and it hit me..... No going back now.....mixed with a little bit of "what the **** am I doing?"

just about full bump on the arms that should do nicely ...

IMG_1167_zpsfr6kpu58.jpg

Tack'd in only but it's officially 4-linked....bring on the whoops.....

IMG_1198_zpszote5ktx.jpg

Can't wait to stick my gopro under here and see these arms working.... can't wait to go out and drive it......and film it and take pictures of it....

Expect some epic videos.

IMG_1197_zpskij1yqr6.jpg

Not re-inventing the wheel.....the equation is so simple.....4 links, big strong axle housing = lots of quality travel. @desertconcepts crew killing it. Good way to end the week. Now we just need to figure out the swaybar to keep the rear in check.

IMG_1196_zpsm6l0bdb8.jpg

Upper control arms start to take shape...
IMG_1246_zps64nzevxt.jpg

Still a lot to do .... But we can take a quick look at where we are at....

I got 99 problems but fuel capacity ain't one of them...anymore. 32 gallons of premium 87 octane will be going in there.....So yeah I have 4 rotopax for sale is anyone needs one. $50each.

IMG_1381_zpswc3x8htj.jpg

The 192lbs of fuel should help balance out the FJ in flight ....I can't wait to burn some fuel in this thing......

IMG_1389_zpsu6znoaci.jpg

The steel housing they made to protect the fuel cell... Tight fit with the rear housing at full bump......but like everything...perfect fit.

IMG_1371_zpslr2ovler.jpg

Hummm you think my upper control arm is long enough? tack'ing in the front to see where we are... Not final configuration .... Pretty sure we getting rid of the flimsy stock shock tower. Who wants to see it cycle?

IMG_1239_zpso34gsabh.jpg

Lowers and upper control arms bolted on and tack'd so we can cycle everything and measure some things...

IMG_1249_zpsna8nfypb.jpg

Here she is bolted up and tack'd together for the first time.... Spindle is from the same Tundra that donated the rear housing......now....Where is the measuring tape? Time to cycle it ... And yes still 4wd. Oh yes.... we are measuring for a custom "tundra" CV made by RCV.

IMG_1254_zpsg2jpc0vo.jpg

It's been a steady, slow transformation. But you can't rush perfection. As things go together some plans change or we get new ideas.... The ideas develop and this slows the whole process down a bit. It doesn't matter as we only want to do this once......

IMG_1559_zps0zcv9c6y.jpg

......and the final update picture for this week....

Full droop....

Hell yeah.... This is great to see... A sign of things to come... I can't wait to see this thing on wheels! I can't even imagine...

You know those fireside conversations when you high or drunk? ".....you know what would be cool? -what bro? ....an FJ to mob the desert with.....you know 4 link, massive shocks, trophy truck travel and still 4wd...." puff, puff... pass....."yeah...that be sweet"....... I still can't believe I was crazy enough to take that thought seriously...

I can wait to drive it in anger and see how she will handle the speed and the terrain.

Needless to say the rational thing would of been to of just purchased a built pre-runner pickup truck......but what fun would that be?>:D

IMG_1384_zpshmlkoekz.jpg

So.....any guesses on travel?

By far the most ever achieved on a FJ...and still 4x4...RCV custom axles will be built.
I've been waiting a long time to get do this..... The guys at @desertconcepts got the UCA tack'd in and we were able to Cycle the front suspension for the first time recently....

Getting some initial measurements and seeing how everything lines up. Just about zero bump steer and just a little camber change at full bump and droop...should be around 90" wide at ride height.

We probably still going to cut out the stock shock tower and build something proper instead of gusseting the stock tower and plenty of more changes still to come......NOT the final setup. Still lots to do....
But this does get my heart going!!

Trophy FJ coming together !!! Follow the build on instagram! @trophyFJ

On the subject of 4wd long travel...

I was just talking about the new 4wd geiser trophy truck....

check this cool clip about it.

They got 24" front travel and 30" in the rear....

Holy s***. This is epic.

Man! only in my dreams. Even though Im not an Fjcruiser fan. Looks GREAT!

Phenomenal skills happening. Thanks for sharing this great work going on.

"I just wanna go fast..."

I think your only limitation will be the 4.0. I think 8 or 9lbs of boost will fix that though. I hope your not painting over all those nice welds, I would just clear coat over them all. I would probably take the body down to bare metal and clear coat that as well. Just make it all look like a raw steel fjcruiser with crazy suspension.

Most racers don't paint the chassis..

WD40 (or whichevers the racers favorite) and some steel wool does wonders :)

I couldn't even dream this. Seriously, after the first sentence I was thinking, why is this in hardcore? This will probably suck. I should have NEVER let my stereotypes run my brain. Thanks for an awakening and keep us posted.

Yeah I was tempted....but I was told clear coat will eventually turn to foggy milk when exposed to harsh desert sun...etc....

I think IM going for a primer grey powdercoat....something I can easyly touch up when it starts to ship and get sandblasted.

Yes....most racers use elbow grease, steel wool and WD-40....

ever seen a truck at the shop the weekend after a race? completely rusted.....

I don't have the patience to sit there every time I go out or it rains (this is kinda a daily driver belive it or not) to steel wool my parts.....I barely ever wash my truck as it is....

But it would look badass.....and it would be my preference.

I'm also partial to the brushed metal look, I saw a 49' Chevy 3100 all in brushed metal that looked gorgeous.....

That said.... little problem with that idea....fiberglass front and rear fenders....and hood......so...no go on that idea.

No idea what color it will be.....honestly I am talking to some potential sponsors at the moment and there is a chance it will get a racetruck style wrapjob with logos etc....

lets see....I'm not even thinking about that right now.....

4.0........boost?

Many considerations regarding the drivetrain are happening right now actually.

Waiting to hear back on some things that will have a huge impact on the project.

The current goal is to get it done to show off at Sema in Nov.

Stay tuned.....I should have some big news/updates soon.

If only the "world" move at the pace I wanted them to......

Well if you use a quality clear coat it will last for years in the desert sun. As far as the fiberglass parts, just paint them a color that contrasts with the brushed metal, like black or red or something.

This is pretty insane.

When the truck is done, you've got to rent some big cherry pickers and do a drop from 10' up like in that trophy truck video you posted above :grinpimp:

Awesome build! I'd love to get those LCA's as a kit and weld them up myself...

I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that forced induction was not allowed in desert racing?
