Entire floor pan, inside doors, inside rear panels, double on tunnel and firewall, just love dynamat extreme

Gonna store air in them for now, I may eventually add some drop down doors instead of side panels, just a bit tricky as I've just fitted big speakers to both panels.

I took this Troopy off the road in January, for a one month project.....

It's amazing how unlucky I can be. Finally got the trans problem sorted out (8 months later) when I told my young bloke not to push as we were fitting it, he gave it an almighty push and (somehow) cracked the radiator fan cowling up front.

When we started it up, everything seemed fine, then when I took it for a test drive (finally) a little bit of load flexed the fan just enough to hit the cowling, break off a blade and ram the blade straight through my quite new 4 pass HD copper radiator. As we say over here, not happy Jan. Actually I said something quite different.

Almost simultaneously, the car started running like crap, huge clouds of oily smoke started billowing out of the exhaust and power was dropping off as I limped home.

It seems that my chinese turbo has blown a seal and is pumping oil straight into my motor. One hour of operation out of it, 2km driven, really not happy Jan.

So now I'm waiting for my new 4 core HD copper radiator, fan and cowling to turn up. I've also made contact with Graham from GTURBO and when I'm back in town next, I'm buying a Grunter Extreme kit for it and will be throwing the chinese piece of crap in the bin and never looking back.

I did a lot of research for this project, everything told me not to buy the chinese knockoff turbo, but I did it anyway. A lesson for new players - if it walks like a duck, waddles and quacks, it's probably a duck. One of the big lessons from IH8MUD is to learn from the experiences of those who have walked the path before you.

Lesson learned......

I will at some point in the next few weeks post a video of the beast back on the road and heading off into the sunset :)

Honestly, you are better off without a GT2871 knockoff turbo.

Far out this is getting exciting. Finally got it all together and back on the road. I've moved to Brisbane for a new job and the Troopy is on a truck on it's way over. Before I left I fitted the new radiator/cowling/fan and a Grunter extreme kit.

F**k me, it could blow 28psi with the foot down, most of it before 2500rpm. I gave the fuel screw a bit of a tickle and can't wait till I get my AFR gauge working so I can tune the pin and max fuel.

Initially it can't handle the pressure (I'll probably only need 20psi anyway) and is pushing oil out of the breather so I'm pulling off then catch can and fitting an exhaust driven venturi crankcase ventilation system on it: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/140914382867?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 (V8 kit, I only need one pipe, one PCV valve and 2 x hose clamps) apparently this is the way to go on race engines (which this is not) as it clears the vapour really effectively and assist with better ring seal.

If you haven't seen this before, it's a pipe you weld into the exhaust with a PCV valve and hose to your rocker cover. The exhaust pressure passing the end of the tube creates negative pressure in your engine and draws the vapour out rather than recirculating it through your engine via your turbo.

A much tidier solution :)

Good to see its getting a decent turbo now, I was going to say its a gamble I wouldn't be willing to take with a Chinese one.

I've moved to Brisbane

The big smoke... crickey! How is that going to affect your round the block test driving of this beast?! Lay low bro! The last thing you want is a city copper wondering WTF is this super modified beast under the bonnet.

I know what you mean about bad luck, my 6 month build is now 4-years over due, off the road most of the last 3 years, and now on its third engine rebuild, 4th radiator, 2nd gearbox (dropped 5 times), 2nd turbo and 3rd exhaust, most due to workshop negligence and low quality work. I hope that makes you feel luckier :)

After all this buildup and big mods you know you're gunna have to make us a video of this beast charging up a sand dune or something akin once she's up and running!

Awesome, I finally sorted out all the little problems I've been having. Doesn't use or leak a drop of oil or water, idles with a very nice purr, goes like a rocket compared to the stock setup with a nice clean exhaust. Just a little puff of black when I give it a kick off idle as I've turned the pump up a bit. I'm saving up for my XXI superpump and injectors now.

Which may or may not be a good thing, I've only been in Brisbane since the start of September and have been caught on camera over the limit 4 times already, I'm rapidly running out of points so I may soon be an outlaw :-)

The XXI SP will be a couple of months down the track (March) but I'm all set up for it now. Very exciting times ahead.

Yeah, the bloody things are all in fixed positions over here with signs telling you they're there before you get to them. The problem is every limit is lower over here. Freeways at 80 instead of a 100. 2 lanes each way at 60 instead of 80. Heavy foot (performance testing) doesn't help.

sounds like you need a gps that tells you when you're over the limit, or the other solution is to get the hell out of the big smoke and back up north!

This seems to have fixed my max fuel cutoff problem, I wish I had of put it in sooner :-) I gave it a 1200g W & D polish before it went in. I'll give it a run and a tweak for a couple of months then I'll tidy it up and get one made out of chrome moly. Stainless looks as rough as guts against the CM one on the right.
