Snuck down to New Mexico to snag this little gem. Engine is all but shot but body isn't to bad! A dream truck of mine and a cool project!

You did it! Congrats. Look fwd to seeing it.

Well get it road worthy and inspected first. Might have to swap my 60 engine in for that. Once it's a true albertans spring over and maybe a sexy power train. Still looking at options for powering it. Everything from a newer cummins to a vortec has crossed my mind. This rig will basically replace my 60. Ill use my driveline from the 60. Engine 5 speed, t case, axles to get me started. Spring over with emu rear 60 springs up front and 63 inch Chevy rears.

Dream new power plant is likely a 5.9 common rail with an auto and atlas case. Hard to say.

It's amazing how much is available for parts once you look outside the Toyota realm . Search Dana 70 on Kajiji and there are a tonne of dodge parts trucks that follow.

Ya listening to peters sermons on the advantage of local parts is pretty convincing. But then why start with a cruiser. Don't know

Chassis size is nice. Full size pick ups just don't fit a lot of trails now a days. Frame strength is good. Wheelbase is good. I wouldn't leave a toyota base no matter what .

I used too work a Canadian Freightways when I was in school and we were the carrier for Ford parts For Alberta . We would get an F250 or 350 chassis daily. I'm not bragging but I could carry that frame by myself.

We were also the hub for Enns Toyota. I actually drove some mine trucks with 1hr on them . But I saw one frame once. Three man job.

I hate to say this but... I have a Polaroid of one of those trucks I drove

Old balls I know

Looks like a great starting point. You planning to wheel it or street it? Sounds like some pretty heavy plan if you go down the Cummins path ;)

Did you finish the head work on the 2H or is it still on the go? I just scored a cheap gasket kit from Onur, so I think I'll be going through the engine for the Pig before it's all bolted in final.

Keeping the Roo bar? There's enough aluminum there to buy at least one tire! Nice score buddy, looking forward to seeing it in person!

Roo bar is certainly for sale. It turns out its steel too. So look out!

It hates it here:

A build plan... Well the first anyway:

Firstly try and get this thing running. Ideally I can get it to fire even if it runs poorly. Just to get it imported and a oop done on it. I figure this might be easier than building and then passing inspections.... Could always swap the vin with the 60. It
Looks like an Hj 60 doesn't it?

Long term:
Engine
2h with turbo and intercooler. Maybe a fancy new turbo for better performance. When the 2h was together and running it ran strong. Very strong. I plan to try and get an mls head gasket and head stud it to help it stay together. Don't need much more performance just need longevity.

Trans:
H55f from my 60

T Case:
Split case from 60 with manual conversion for 4x4 shift or one from a bj70 parts rigs around. I may swap low range gears into it but think I'd prefer to go with a black box from nwf. This gives more options for later on if I ever re power and al gives me more low. I have plenty of driveline length so that is no concern...

Axles:
60 series width with 4.11 centres. Rear Detroit or lunch box for now. Front ARB locker with chromoly axles. Long fields err trail gear....Same thing.... Need front high steer arms to get swapped on. I'd like to add ram assist and run a high flow Psc pump.

Tires: 37s with internal air locks. Might drop to 35s but can't see it.

Suspension:
A SOA with Chevy 63" rears from a 3/4ton. Front a will likely be my current 60 rears. Arb mediums. Try and keep it as low as possible for the soa. French in hangers and all the tricks I can in order to stay low... I'd like fancy shocks on the corners and maybe even fancy bumps. Likely a rear track bar to limit axle wrap. No air bags. I'd like this truck not to need them. I could be convicted to run rears for weigh capacity on long trips.

Armor:
Front bumper. Probably your standard 40 series fair with a possible hoop for beZel protection

Sliders with steps for entry

Rear dual swing out bumper. Going to try and adapt current 60 bumper as it is so wicked awesome.

Roof rack. I have some ideas for a roof rack that may also offer some halo protection around roof line. I'd like something full length. Should have gobs of storage on it....

Other do dads:
Webasto air top
Drawer set up
Sleep platform
Aux battery
110 inverter

Then some bOdy work to make it look ok. Not a restoration but some cleaning up and patching.

Here's hoping!

I hadn't heard that the black box production was in full swing? NIce rig. Can't wait to see it. Nice to see some old iron.

You better get out the tape measure and check if you can put perches on the 60 axle at the 40 series width. I think you will have to outboard the front hangers which will take frenching them off the table.

Paul just did something like that. Ill ask him!

You can cut in to the third housing and keep everything under the frame. I know for sure on a 70, not 100% on a 40 chassis.
