on the roof rack we needed to make a custom tent mount bars.
since we were drilling 5/16" holes into 1/2" butted aluminum C channel the holes needed to be perfectly inserted.
a modified entry level drill press was brought into play. it worked REAL nice.
Mitch enjoyed having a new toy to play with.

Nice thinking out ot the box with that drill - a "clamp-drill" instead of a "magnetic-drill"

yah, magnetic doesn't work so good on aluminum ...
best $90 i have spent in a while...

cost of rear diff, i would have to look it up. we really didn't have any choice since we decided to go disc brake rear and none were available. it arrived on tuesday morning, delivered to the PC tuesday afternoon and returned wed noon. i wish we could get all our PC back that fast.

thanks for the compliments guys, i appreciate it.

Man, that is turning out nice, definitely some great fab work and ideas for my eventual troopy build;)

If you ever decide to make any more of those rear door cooking platforms, I'd definitely be in for a set:grinpimp:

Hey Wayne,
They do make nutzerks with little tab on them so that they aren't suppose to rotate. You might have to find a Aviation parts store/supplier to find these. When ever I use these I try to find the ones with the little tab, it does mean a little bit more work since you have to make a tab hole for the tab to fit in.

What about the disc rotor, caliper and bits of handbrake??

rotor and caliper is local new
all the hand brake parts came from Japan new.

Taco, if these are set proper then they are rock solid but it doesn't hurt to check each one. as you know, if they start to turn with the bolt they are a bugger to work loose.

i did not know there were ones with tabs. are they available in M6?

a company called spanawd (spelling sucks) sells them. if you have a good bolt supply place near by they will be able to get you one.

bummer you bought a new FF rear. I have a spare FF rear from a 70 series with factory disks and limited slip just sitting in my carport as a spare.

Keep up the great work, it's coming along nicely

yah, bummer.
would have been nice to find local and complete. i would have rebuilt it anyway but still ...
cheers

Wayne,

I don't know if you have a "Granger's" industrial supply company ( http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml) in Canada, but they have a product called "Rivet-Nuts". They are available in metric sizes too!

The Marson company (http://www.alcoa.com/fastening_systems/commercial/de/product_category.asp?cat_id=739) makes installation tools and rivet-nuts. They install in a similar way as a riv-nut - they use a threaded mandrel to pull the part up to bottom of the hole. There are two type of installation tools, a small tool that uses two wrenches, which is ok for small sizes, or a large tool that looks like a large pop rivet tool with interchangeable threaded mandrels.

They are available in aluminum or plated steel.

These work great.

Yes, please make some for me, they look awesome!!!

Any chance you can make a set up to sell mail order?

if you have the spare mounted on the door the large size will not work due to the reinforcing bracket inside the door.
i could use 1/4" aluminum instead of 3/8ths which will reduce the cost of materials somewhat and make shipping a bit cheaper.
the catches makes for rattle free.

if i can get orders for 5 then the cost will be a bit cheaper, if order for 10 can be arranged then cheaper again.

i didn't plan on making them for resale but i could be convinced to head down that road.

cheers
