yes, 4 chains.
The weight of the truck is not quite balanced, the front ist about 100kg lighter then a stock 80, the rear weights more than I would like...And the chains are very heavy and I did´t wanted the weight in the back and the dirt inside.
Driving them around supplied the good weather...;)

My eyes and brain can't even make sense of this photo! Maybe because I am on hour 8 in front of the puter.

P.S. I would buy a poster of your rig as well!

Thank you for inspiring me.
I want to do FJ45 suspension FZJ80.
We have photos of me on it more.

we made a frame to match the 45 and 80 mounts, works as a body lift too.

Steering is all 80.
But I know of other builds wich used the original steering column and a mixture of 45 and 60 parts:

just give Heity a pm in case....

greetings Sönke
Soenke, Do you have any pictures of this frame and how it was built? Perhaps after it was installed but without the body on? Thanks,

getting prepared for our Iceland trip this year, wich we had to postpone to Oktober...so the prearrangements will be different to the usual summer trips...

the military chains originally adapted to 35" will fit the 37" just fine...all we need is spacers to have the clearance...

hope to find some new Iceland impressions beside storm, snow and rain...
Soenke, What do you mean by spacers? Are you talking about wheal spacers, coil spacers, bump stop spacers (I assume not body lift spacers)?

same with me..:D feels like Hobbit Land

Frodo Lives! ...sorry, couldnt resist

A simply amazing vehicle and great pictures soenke, thank you. Did I miss the post, or did you ever make it to Utah?

Question

My underpants are dirty from fantasizing about your rig. I'm sorry, but it is true. My wife gets no love from me anymore because I'm devoting all of my attention to finding out more about your truck....

I must have missed it and have reread but can't find:

- Why didn't you just use the 1993 HDJ 80 cab cut down instead of replacing it with one from the 1979 HJ47? I know I read somewhere that the lines matched better with the camper box, but is that the only reason?

- Alternately, why didn't you just use the entire HJ47; that's a pretty durable/bullet proof vehicle as I understand it, better even than the HDJ?

Soenke, You need to make a calendar of your favorite pictures for the rest of us! I'd buy one for sure. I'd even help getting them printed up if you needed it!

I am looking to build a BJ44 for overland with some of your ideas. While your build is inspiring, your travels are even more so.

Incredible build and photos, definitely gives me the itch to get out and travel. If I make it to Germany next year I'll have to look you up. And another question, can't help myself - what kind of Saab? Sorry, not cruiser related, but I'm one of those weird saab types and couldn't help myself...:o

Gruß,

Bryan

Thanks guys

I wanted the HDJ8 engine, gearbox, axles, coilsprings and discbrakes all around.
Having travelled with a BJ45 for years I love that truck, but I got to know how much better coil spring, permanent 4wd and much more power improve the performence on track and in the sand /dunes.

We didn´t cut just the 80ty, ...because we don´t like the view of a cut down 80ty with a cabine in the back.... :p
Would have made things a lot cheaper and easy though..

sorry I don´t have much time in the moment to participate in the forum or to post new pics, I don´t even have many new and good pics aquired last year.

I could only show some camp side pics from scottland this year, quite boring ...
