Ok, I knew I had noisy (er than usual) bearings and I'd have to rebuild one day, and I have all new kits for trans/transfer/clutch already in the garage, but I started getting a klunking noice seeming to come from up close to the trans/bellhousing area. It was only one or two times, then went away, but the other day it was all of the sudden constant..if I press clutch in, it stops, so it's in the driveline right there..I'm up for just yanking and rebuilding, although time is really not on my side right now...but I'd love to get the consensus on what it sounds like. I pulled the rear shaft and went front wheel drive around the neighborhhod, to see if u joints were to blame, but it was still there..maybe not as loud as rear wheel drive, as I had to put the transfer in 4wd, but I took the shifter boots off and held my phone by the opening to make a video that captures the sound pretty well. Could the clutch or throw out have taken a dump on me? Thanks for the help, guys.

Something is machining itself a new surface, by the speed of the knocks it seems clutch or dline, something come loose in pressure plate ????
LOL. Machining itself..that's exactly what it sounds like. Like I chucked up round stock in the lathe and it's off center hitting the tool.

Pull the little inspection cover and listen before and after removing cover, if the noise is louder with cover off, its comin from in there.
make sure to wear safety glasses.....might be all kinds of debris and chips in there.......

Well, I pulled the inspection plate and there she was....broken clutch fork...sheesh.. Out she comes! looks like I'll redo the transfer and trans seals/bearings while I'm at it..

Also a hideous mess in there...it'll be nice to clean it all up

Time to get your hands on a transmission jack and get dirty. I replaced the rear main seal, cleaned up the gas tank, replaced fuel lines, and cleaned and repainted a bunch of parts when I tore mine apart.

Yep! I have all the stuff...not a problem doing it, just time I'd rather spend elsewhere, like earning money..LOL. Yeah, I'll do the rear main, too. This thing is a caked on crusty mess...and it's cold outside...lol. Onward!

What's broken?
Oh shoot, I see what you're saying...that's just the fork resting on the ear of the TB holder...it looks broken in person..I looked at google pics and not sure if mine is broken or just misaligned...it does wiggle easily..hmm

You're missing at least one of the little springs that hold the throw-out bearing holder to the clutch fork. The bottom one is easy to replace, hope you still have the upper one...

Shoot, yeah...I'll see if the other one is on there. either way, I need to take it all apart. I just wanted to have a better idea of what was making the noise first..

That spring isnt making that noise in your vid.
No, but the lack of that (or those) spring(s) might let the throw-out bearing and carrier move around in a noisy way, maybe.
