I'm in the market for a new car carrier for towing the 80, preferably aluminum, and custom made to my demanding specs . Full deck, not enclosed. Would also consider a quality used one.

Prefer within 1.5 hour radius from central Chester county.

Anybody?

Greg not sure if you've started to look but aluminum is much more expensive than steel. Yes lighter weight to be sure. I borrow a friend's aluminum trailer often and it tows very well, in fact have a 60 series coming here on it later this week.

I want aluminum for that very reason, lightweight, as well as rust resistant. It will probably be stored in a less than hospitable environment up near the woods line at the house.

Aluminum is great for the weight savings, but we've had to chase electrical issues on the two that I've owned (much more frequently than the steel ones). The ground loops seem to be the culprit most of the time. Just my $.02...FWIW

That being said, I'd probably still buy aluminum again.

There is Burkholder on 322 which is right by my house. Have also heard good things about TP Trailers in Limerick and Four Acres in Delaware.

(mental note - need to make better friends with Greg)...So Greg, buddy, wanna grab a beer this weekend? :hillbilly:

I have a Dively/EconoLine out of Claysburg, PA. It is steel, but a good trailer for the money. Has towed everything very well from the rock crawler, to my dads race car, to our mini van, and many loads of barn beams and building materials. I chose one that fit my 4Runner the best and it weighs it at around 1300 pounds. Aluminum was too expensive for me when I originally bought it.

Appreciate the comments. I'm dead set on aluminum, and it cannot have a dovetail. The area where I'll be storing it involves climbing a steep hill, and the approach angle from the road to the hill might be challenging. A dovetail would either hang up hard on the road and/or dig into the earth. I'll check out TP Trailers in Limerick since it's closest.

For what it's worth I'd advise staying away from anything with surge brakes and stick with the old fashioned brake controller/electric brakes.

30 plus years ago my brother bought a featherlight 2 axle stock trailer.. one can imagine the abuse a livestock trailer receives. It is still in excellent shape .. so ya, stick with aluminum..

Well, after looking around for a used trailer, and only finding them in distant locations, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new one. Talked to someone at TP trailer in Limerick on Friday about ordering a new 18 ft Aluma 7k. They emailed me some quotes for a few options I requested. Price was fair enough, but not cheap . Being that this can be a company expense, I was ready to place the order. I checked ebay, one last time, and there was an 18 ft 2016 10K Aluma trailer just listed in North Jersey. He included his phone number so I gave him a call. Five minutes later we madea deal! I sent him a $100 via paypal and we agreed to meet in the morning. Met him at 9:00 on Saturday morninig, inspected it, gave him his cash, and it followed me home!

I still had sone concerns about where I wanted to store it on my property. There is a steep hill I'd have to take it up and wasn't sure the Tundra would be happy with the task. This is the hill, and as always, just like with wheeling pics, this is much steeper than it appears.

Dropped the Tundra into 4L and it didn't even flinch. I can't even believe I was worried about it. No sweat!

Backed the trailer up into it's new home, and it's now safe and happy to not be living in New Jersey any longer!

Nice find!
It will serve you well!

If any club members, that I personally know, need to borrow a trailer in the future, just ask.

Do you just have to know us, or like and trust us as well?! :)

I would like to borrow it sometime, but I fear that now that you own a trailer you'll be using it constantly as you continue to amass your Land Cruiser collection!
