I installed mine just about identically to the way you did. I pick up the new camper on Wednesday, so then we'll know if I did it correctly. So far, no warning lights and all is behaving … we shall see. Thank you all for your help! (next question is about mirrors on the LC200 for towing a trailer that is 8 feet wide - any advice there?)

My trailer is just under 7’ wide, and the factory mirrors do a fair job.

I think I saw a post about someone using Tundra mirrors.

Another option would be these (I have no personal experience with them): Clearview Towing Mirrors For 200 Series Toyota Land Cruiser

On the mirror question, check over in the main thread on towing with a 200 series Land Cruiser.

I just use the factory mirrors but I have a set of 2” convex blind spot mirrors stuck on the bottom corner. I find they’re extremely helpful even without towing as the B pillar sometimes obstructs vehicles anyway.

I've been thinking of adding the convex mirrors as well. Do you recall which ones you purchased? The ones I've seen at the local auto parts stores seem cheaply made (maybe they all are). I'd like to find something of decent quality. . .

These are the ones I bought due to the mostly great reviews. I've used the once and they seem to be more of a pain than they're worth so I just use the stock mirrors now. I think our trailer is 7 1/2 feet.

Also not the best solution, but definitely the simplest :)

I think these are the ones that get a lot of bad reviews due to the powder coating/paint coming off and the underlying aluminum corroding.

I might give these a shot. I have them on the LX450 and always just look past them, so I never really gave them much thought for the 200. I see that Tahoes now come standard with little convex sections permanently built in to their mirrors.

@catastrofe i just bought a cheap set for $7 from Amazon. I’ve had them 3 years. They adhere with some 3M VHB tape. They still look ok though they are starting to get some black speckles and streaks in them. When it starts to bug me I’ll just pull them off and put on a new set.

I hate to wake a zombie thread, but I want to say this is a great thread for instructions to get to the tow plug.

I stressed out about it prior to the install, and then when I went to do it, I realized that It is SOOOOOO easy.

Basically 2 phillips screws, two 10mm bolts, pop out two plastic panels, and bob's your uncle.

Thanks for the great instructions.

I installed a redarc controller and it is sweet. Looks like how the factory would do it. The only caveat I'd offer is watch where you install the controller box, I used 3m VHB to stick it to the side of that silver vertical box like others before me. With the VHB it isn't going anywhere, but when I went to reinstall the bottom plastic panel, I had interference with my TPMS reset button. Oops.

What year and where did you install your knob? I just ordered the Redarc and switch plate but do not have any blanks to the left of the wheel in my 13’. I do have 4 to the right though, has anyone put it there?

Mine is a '13, the left blanks are also full. I installed it in the upper right corner of the ones on the right (the ones being pointed at in the photo above).

The redarc blank snapped right in. By the way, snap the redarc blank in first, install the redarc rheostat from behind, then install the nut to hold it together. The body of the redarc switch won't fit through the hole from the front...

I thought I would include a LX 570 write up for 2016+ models.

#1 take off the trim Piece with the start button just grab the bottom and pull towards you it comes off pretty easily. I click the wire harness from the back.

#2 on the bottom press the little plastic clips and unscrew 2 screws with a Phillips screw driver

#3 On the left side use a trim removal tool or a flat head screw driver to expose the 10mm bolt undo that one and the one the right side. Unclip the light and the tpms button

#4 pull off the entire panel under the steering column, I included a picture of where all the clips are, you just gotta gently pull it and it will come off. Now undo all the electrical clips, the gas lid and hood clip too. Pull out the entire panel. I didn’t pull out the airbag panel I just pulled around it.

#5 look up behind the cluster of buttons the HUD, the Auto high beam, headlight washer, and the easy exit, easy entry button. You will find the brake controller connector with the brown tape everyone talked about.

#6 follow all the other directions you found here from other Mud members.

Then enjoy the finished project

I felt like the 2016-2020 LX570’s was different enough to do another write up. Hopefully this helps.

I ordered the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite direct

from Australia as they have released Version 3 while in the US we are still on Version 2. Price was about the same as eTrailer although the box came with extra cabling to run from power source AND even an 80W soldering iron.

Version 3 has updated software, a smaller under panel remote connector and full ring rumination.

Remote connector is smaller than switch hole, meaning it can be installed from dash front with control cable snaked in.

You had me thinking about upgrading my version 2 until you mentioned “full ring illumination.”

The only thing I hate about the RedArc is the illumination is too bright at night.

Maybe this new style is less blinding?I would love it if you could post some pictures of it light up at night.

Will do, when I get the LC backend can install after Christmas break. Got antsy so hooked it up to a battery in garage. As no trailer connected it only will go to Blue "breathing" mode, but it gives some idea (dark, area of garage, camera had night mode, no flash)

I just wanted to add a data point on mounting options for the LX570. The fit behind the dash was extremely tight due to the older (pre-Gen3) remote control body having a large form factor behind the panel. Also, the dash is slightly thicker than the installation instructions' stated maximum, so the button didn't fully depress at first. This was overcome by putting a spacer inside the knob's cylinder to ensure sufficient stand-off distance from the dash to depress the button fully. The location's ergonomics work well for me to adjust gain or manually activate while driving.

Joined the club with a redarc brake controller. Took the easy route and also got the harness meant for Toyota. Had met Marc back at expo east 2019, definitely a good dude and helpful. Had messaged him before ordering to make sure I had the right stuff.
One thing that shocked me was it took a good 25mins to recognize direction of travel with first trailer hookup. Thanks @Brucey
