So for the record I was able to successfully stuff the Badlands Apex 12,000 winch into my 03 LX…. WITHOUT HAVING TO RELOCATE THE CONTROL BOX.
There weren’t to many issues in fact hardly any issues at all really, basically just had to mount the winch to the winch plate before bolting it to the frame to make the tight fit. And also just had to trim up the center bracket. It was about a four beer job minus the wiring I still need to connect (30 mins)…The Trail Tailor winch mount made it super easy and it looks great
I wanted a winch and read a lot of reviews and between those reviews and my wallet constraints I decided to go with the Habor Freight Badland Apex 12000 wireless winch (25% off coupon worked) then I had to figure out if I wanted to make a hidden plate or buy one. I am so glad I decided to spend...
It’s hard to actually see but hopefully this gives you a good idea anyway. I contemplated just making my own winch mount but really wanted the Trail Tailor, lucky for me shortpencils here on this site had his up for sale and I nabbed his for a fair price. Side note… even if I hadn’t got a good deal on mine I would’ve gladly paid full price for a new one knowing what I know now meaning how easy it was and the nice fit and finish of the Trail Tailor mount. In the pics the clutch lever looks cramped in there but it’s not it’s actually got a lot of room in there for your hands to get in there and turn

I did not install the badland winch but did install a smittybilt x20 12k lb winch. I relocated the control box to next to the airfilter box under the hood. Unsure how the badlands clutch operates, but the smittybilt stick out the top right side if you're standing facing the truck.
This is a non-night vision late model LX470 - 2006.
I overlapped the front bumper bar and then drilled through the bar and winch plate to tie it all together.
It looks like you used the existing inner bumper support instead of the wings that come with the kit? I bought mine second hand from someone who had it on their 2007 LC - I have an 07 LX470. Why use the existing inner bumper - is it because the wings that come with the kit dont fit the LX470 bumper?

Unless something has changed since I bought mine, there are no wings that came with the kit. I believe the older 100s had a steel bumper bar whereas newer ones have an aluminum bar. If the wings you got are steel, I'd guess you just got extra pieces off someone's older 100 when you bought your plate.
The TT website still references cutting the front bumper bar during installation.
The used kit I bought came with wings... guess yours was an earlier one. The wings on the kit that was originally purchased for an 07 LC fit great on my 07 LX470.
Another happy customer here. Installed mine today and it was too easy. Hardest part was cutting the bumper! Even fits with my Asfir skid plates no problem.
Got the Badlands to fit without electrical relocation by modifying the middle bracket behind the bumper. Moved some 5000+lb logs with it, love it!
