Interesting, afaik the LC only had a rear heat and no rear AC in 98/99, which disappeared and switched standard rear AC in 2000+. LX had rear AC all years, I think?

EDIT: and to keep it on topic, I can't recommend the @TRAIL TAILOR hidden winch mount enough.
My 1999 Land Cruiser - Production date 3/1999 - Has rear A/C. I'll poke around under there this week and take a few shots of the ac lines and post them so others can compare.

Thank you all for the information as this is exactly what I am looking for in order to have a winch without impacting approach angles or the look of the front end. I am new here but really learning a lot. Much appreciated!

Can you post a pic of how it mounts underneath the frame rails?

The mount bolts where the tow hooks are bolted to the frame.

This picture from when I was making the template. It shows my high pressure A/C line and how it dips below the mounting point for the tow hook.

@melepley & @Espi SERE : Did any of you notice sagging from the front after the winch was installed.

The winch adds quite some weight up front and was curious if you've spotted or felt any difference in that regards.

No sagging after the install. I did check my AHC pressures after the install and they were still in spec. I was quite surprised.

The winch plate weighs approximately 35 lbs (weight on the shipping label) and my xd9000 is about 80 lbs.

@melepley : any suggestion for a proper location of the control box? Any pics will help.

I used the brackets on the bottom of my solenoid mount to attach the box using worm clamps around the motor. This allowed me to get the perfect angle on the box for control cable plug location.

Those are some really clean and nicely done installations....guys.

Good work.

I did not install the badland winch but did install a smittybilt x20 12k lb winch. I relocated the control box to next to the airfilter box under the hood. Unsure how the badlands clutch operates, but the smittybilt stick out the top right side if you're standing facing the truck.

This is a non-night vision late model LX470 - 2006.

I overlapped the front bumper bar and then drilled through the bar and winch plate to tie it all together.

Vertical space above top of winch - not enough for a control box but plenty for the winch itself

Plenty of room for clutch to operate

Even with bumper bar extended a little, still plenty of room for winch width-wise on both sides.

The fairlead that came with the smittybilt sat a bit far back from my liking....and my plastic trimming skills aren't great.

Factor 55 fairlead fixed the depth problem...but not the plastic trimming skills problem.

Looking to add the Trail Tailor Winch mount but with an Badlands Apex. Anyone done it yet?
I'd recommend comparing the dimensions of the Badlands winch to those @TRAIL TAILOR mentions on his web site.

Without checking, I'd be fairly certain there will be no major fitment issues. Although, you may need to trim the support in the center just behind the grill if you are installing on an LX470.

Of course in true “**** it” fashion, I ordered everything before I measured anything. It’s worked out in my favor thus far in life. I agree with you about the center support, I think that’s the only thing that’s clearly in the way. I’ll report back next weekend after the mount comes and I can get it installed.

My winch originally had the integrated solenoid xd9000i. I could have partly cut the center bracket and it would have fit. In my case I opted to convert it to the xd9000.

So for the record I was able to successfully stuff the Badlands Apex 12,000 winch into my 03 LX…. WITHOUT HAVING TO RELOCATE THE CONTROL BOX.
There weren’t to many issues in fact hardly any issues at all really, basically just had to mount the winch to the winch plate before bolting it to the frame to make the tight fit. And also just had to trim up the center bracket. It was about a four beer job minus the wiring I still need to connect (30 mins)…The Trail Tailor winch mount made it super easy and it looks great
