Thinking about getting an offset flail mower for the 3pt, anyone have any idea how one does hp calculations for a midmount mower and a rear pto mower?

Thinking that if I have the midmount mower I could run the offset flail at the same time and do about 2m of grass at a time plus get under trees, into pond and ditches and things in a less sketchy way. Any thoughts? Maybe I need to upgrade to a bigger tractor 😁

How many hp is your pto? And the required HP for the mowers?

I'd think if the mowers required HP added up to less than your pto hp you'd be ok...

my little s***ter is only 12.5 HP at the pto 🤣

Also make sure they both will spin at the same time...cuz that'd be a problem.

Or borrow some cows or sheep maybe? :flipoff2:

Tractor is 25hp, rear is rated for 17.2 and middle doesn't have a rating. Both can run at once.

Borrowing some sheep has crossed the mind 😁

Thought I'd try that vevor place.

Wouldn't be hard to make these but for 142 including tax and shipping... they seem not bad.

Showed up less than 2 days after ordering. 😳

Make yourself a counterweight first tho...faceplants are scary
Picked up some pallet forks from an auction, they're really handy but with the mower not on the back its rather sketchy.

They're pretty long and so if you have any weight further out the tractor tries to face plant. Any idea what sort of weight I should be aiming to hang off the back? Debating a bucket of cement vs some sort of suitcase weight attaching point... but then you have to buy suitcase weights.

Not sure how much weight, there's probably a formula out there for what your 3 point can lift and what percentage of that the counterweight should be?

Mine is a home made steel box filled with cement, maybe 2' square? I doubt the guy who built it was very scientific about it. It's ****in heavy.

It'd be easy enough to build. Just find something that fits between your 3 point arms and is a similar width to what you normally pick up so you don't have to do too much adjusting when it goes on and off.

Grab a couple of these from somewhere and you can make a box out of just about anything.

One recommendation tho, put some small casters or at least rollers on the bottom of it. Mine doesn't have them (yet) and it's a bitch to get lined up because it's so freaking heavy.

I added a hitch to the back of mine so I can still tow a little trailer. this version has a receiver, just to give you ideas. Still needs rollers tho.

I've also seen them made from the blue plastic barrels. Whatever that half size is might be about right for you?

Just need bars going right through for the lift points because the pins would pull out.

Might be a quicker solution than building a steel box

Another thing, my rear tires are full of some kinda fluid. Heavy as hell, probably makes a bit of difference?

I’ve always heard it referred to as… “Water”

Depending on how you use your tractor, weight can either be a good thing… or bad. When our Leyland Tractor sunk in the orchard down to its belly, the tow truck had a heck of a time getting it out. Basic principle… wheelie till the front of the tow truck was eight feet in the air, and then wait for it to sink back down to the pavement again.

They may call it water but the freeze point would like a word...

with these little tractors, you need the weight just to not do a faceplant when picking things up.

Even worse is carrying anything heavy downhill with no counterweight. If you're not in 4wd, if the rear end even gets light, the front has no brakes so you accelerate downhill and your only option is to dump the load (before you dump a load  )

This is my s***ty weight box. Several changes I'd make if I was building my own...

Tool box on top, pipes down the sides or set in the concrete to hold shovels etc, and some rollers on the bottom.

I put the plywood lid on it years ago, because the box isn't 100% full of cement, so there's a bit of space for a wrench and a hammer. Real toolbox would be better. One of these days I'll get around to it.

I haven't actually used it in a while because this thing is so heavy. Takes up a lot more space tho, so it's easier to back into things....

Ah good tips!
Is that a flail mower? If so how is the cut quality?

No, it's a tiller. Or Rotavator I guess?

Believe it or not, it's actually made for the jd ride on...

Pain in the ass to use on it tho, so I adapted it to fit the Kubota. Does a lot of shovel work in a very short time...

A woodchipper is on my list if things I'd like to have. But, $$$

The little 9hp Kawasaki spins real well with this spare battery shoehorned under the seat.

If I ever run out of gas it’ll be good for a bit.

It ain't no tractor but its pretty much a license to print money. Got this 3.5 ton machine for a good deal because it had a crack in the boom.

I see tracks… a blade, and a bucket… who am I to judge. If I can call my 9hp JD a lawn tractor, I’d say your Kubota counts. All I need now is a Kubota key to go with my CAT key… and to know when you’re gonna be out of town. Don’t worry I’ll make sure it’s cleaner when you get home than when you left… ;)

Damn honest streak

Just bought this nice little 1951 Allis Chalmers HD7 dozer. 4-71 Detroit Diesel, 10’ adjustable blade and double winches on the rear. We’re going to use it to clear some land on our place and plow our driveway.
I was looking at getting a quad with a snow plow or putting a plow on my truck or cruiser but for $4300 this was cheaper. And it runs like a top. The last owner had it for 16 years and put 100hrs on it.

Great little machine, perfect for yard work. I spent some time working on small JD 450/650's last year then moved a Komatsu 475 from one mine to another last week. That thing was a monster.
