Thinking I might pick up something like this.

Could snap it onto the mid PTO and use it to fill some barrels from the pond :hmm:

You mean cruiser t-case PTO? Neat idea.

You could make some extra $$ summers wheeling into difficult access locations to fight forest fires!

Or use it to pump water into a portable hot tub at your remote campsite of choice...

So many options...haha.

Haha, no meant for the tractor, but there's other versions (cheaper) with just a shaft drive so they'd be easier to adapt to the cruiser .

That might be fun too...:hillbilly:

At the moment we fill this with the fire pump and it's not too messy. It's high enough above the garden that there's decent pressure from gravity.

Filling barrels with the fire pump sucks tho...get soaked

I have a blue barrel in the lawnmower trailer for dragging around to water the odd tree.

I have a 12v pump in a well out back but it'd take hours to fill a barrel

Found an old bilge pump in the shed, works ok to fill a barrel. Takes about 20 minutes-half an hour.

Time to go have a coffee...in preparation for the sketchy hill climb with a tippy trailer that comes next :hillbilly:

And this is not really tractor, but someone might find it useful. Pretty cool I thought.

Finally the crap I learned in school for my job is useful at home.

We have a big cistern for rainwater, and I finally got around to installing a pump on it and snapping some pex around for some hose bibs in convenient spots for swmbo.

Pump would cycle constantly ( not unexpected) , so rather than pay for a $$ accumulator, I modified an out of date 10lb propane tank to act as an air cushion tank. Newer versions will have a bladder in them so they don't lose their air over time, but for zero money this made a night and day difference to the pump.

Air compresses, water doesn't so it helps store pressure, now with the pump unplugged and the system charged, the hose will run for a couple minutes before it loses pressure. Also completely stopped the water hammer. :)

Next time one of our 20lb tanks goes out of date I'll do the same with it.

That's pretty cool.

I have one of those tanks (one with bladder I think) connected to my hydronic heating system. Probably more to allow expansion/contraction of the water with temperature I'd guess.

Now that I think of it, my camper could really do with one. Keep the water pump from cycling so much.

Yeah even the little ones make a big difference. Used to install them in boats all the time, otherwise you end up turning the water off at night so it doesn't keep you awake.

I was just too cheap to pay anything on a rainwater system :hillbilly:

The bladderless ones do get waterlogged eventually, but I figger with this one getting drained every fall, it'll probably be fine for the 6 months it's in use.

Even the bladdered ones need a recharge now and again, just need a bicycle pump.

Just unloaded some big shelves on palets out of the 70 with the tractor... Dying for a set of palet forks... Wrapping straps around stuff to the bucket and watching it slide while the girlfriend tries to balance it is going to end up with me getting murdered 😁

Haha, yeah if mine had more lift I'd have got a set ages ago...would work for brush forks pretty well I think.

If I do a tractor upgrade one day they'll be on the list.

I get pellets delivered by the pallet load and it'd be nice if I could move those without taking them apart.

Make yourself a counterweight first tho...faceplants are scary

We had a set made by a local fabricator. They were about 6” wide and secured to the bucket with a pin. Don’t remember using them… but that was a long time ago. We sold the farm when I was 16-17.

Regarding water hammer…

We’ve had water hammer since I installed a multi-head shower fixture a few years back. It doesn’t matter which tap is shut off hot or cold… or where in the house. Now I know it relates to the fixture because it stops if the shutoffs to it are turned off. My only thoughts are it’s flexible supply lines are allowing it. I’ve yet to pull it off the wall and replace them with braided SS lines. Would a tank like these help/eliminate the water hammer?

2529D524-F404-4616-81E7-DF87B8DDB1DB.jpeg

Would it be installed after the water regulator in the supply line?

Any tap in the house will trigger it. Hammer arrestees like the one pictured did nothing. I’ve tried them by the taps I’m turning off and on… no difference.

There’s something in the shower fixture that triggers it. Before we bought it I read a review about someone else who bought it also having water hammer… a plumber had to come and fix it. Didn’t say how in the review unfortunately.

It’s not bad by any means, but more of an annoyance than anything. The only things I could see a plumber doing would be replacing the supply lines… or installing those little hammer arrestors. It’s weird that any tap in the house will trigger it, and arrestors do nothing. Only thing that works is to shut off the ball valves in its supply lines.

It sounds like it would make more sense to:
1) check house water pressure.
2) replace the supply lines that came with the unit.
3) add water arrestors and the unit.
4) continue to ignore it.

My hunch is that it’s #2 so I’ll likely start there. I think I remember adjusting the regulator and it making no difference.

BTW, the new white tank above was for sale for $25, and the used blue one was $20. Let me know if you’re interested… I know you don’t do FBMP (Facebook).

Did you put the arrestors close to the shower head?

We have a pump that hammers here at work. Stops when a different pump is turned on. It's freaking bizarre.

Not as scary as when a steam line hammers tho. That'll wake you up in the morning 😳

Thanks for the offer on the tanks but my system seems to be working pretty well. Think I'll just leave it for now.

At the toilet beside it made no difference. I’ve not removed it from the wall to put one inside yet. If pull it down I’ll replace the flexible supply lines and see what’ll fit if that doesn’t solve it.

Thinking about getting an offset flail mower for the 3pt, anyone have any idea how one does hp calculations for a midmount mower and a rear pto mower?

Thinking that if I have the midmount mower I could run the offset flail at the same time and do about 2m of grass at a time plus get under trees, into pond and ditches and things in a less sketchy way. Any thoughts? Maybe I need to upgrade to a bigger tractor 😁
