If you get a tractor without a bucket how universal are the front buckets to rig up? Do you need to find an exact match or is there some sort of standard similar to the hitches?
I think they're relatively universal. Just matching the size would be the thing. Too big and your tractor is always trying to do a faceplant. Depends on the front end of the tractor too. Some aren't suited for heavy loads.

Seems like the loaders are often made by a separate company, and they just have mounts for the different tractors out there. Or the main brands anyways.

A weight box on the back is important too, helps put the load more onto the rear axle.

Interesting thing about tractors is that they don't generally have front brakes.
So if you're going down a steep hill with no weight box and a heavy load in the loader, if the rear end gets light, it can suddenly turn into a roller skate that wants to go down the hill at maximum speed and you have no brakes. :steer:

Discovered that with mine when I was moving gravel and only had the post auger on the back. Thought I was gonna land in the pond.

After that, it's 4wd only going down the steeper hills...at least the front wheels are geared then.

It's interesting... Here it seems like buying a full size tractor is almost cheaper then buying a compact one... I guess it's a lot more common
Yeah, it's sorta that way around here too. You can often get a big old massey or ford for 5k but a little kubota is twice that.

I had to pounce when I saw the one I bought for sale. Like sneak out of work for an hour kind of pounce.

For most things a larger one that what I have wouldn't be bad. Mines a b1550, which I think might be the smallest one they made.

Think I'd have to live in a place with a postage stamp for a yard not to own one tho. Too damn useful. Who wants to carry s*** if you don't have to?

Right now I'm just trying to figure out a convenient little watering trailer. Basically a water tote on wheels that I could fill with the fire pump, then tow around to wherever swmbo requires. :hhmm:

Isn't that just an ibc with wheels?

They're like this... They're used for chemical and liquid shipping... You can get them pretty cheap over here (10-200 bucks depending on what was in them)

You can find pretty cheap ones that had corrosive stuff in them, but probably worth knowing is that hydrochloric acid is extremely water soluble so if you find one of those you can just fill it a few times with water and empty it and it's fine for storing water for gardening etc. Other acids you should research to confirm if they're water soluble or not...

The ones that had dish soap or laundry soap in them tend to be in the middle of the range price wise but also pretty ok for water for gardening...

Also I chucked a cheap bid on the most frightening lawn mower I've ever seen don't really plan to get it but who knows... 5m cutting width wouldn't take me long to do the whole yard

Yeah I figured that out after I posted haha.

A guy in Coombs always seems to have some for sale. Was thinking that or maybe just a plastic barrel so the smaller mower could move it.

That mower is something alright

It looks like the reel mowers would tend to roll the ground flat as you mow... ;)

a lot of the schools use reel mowers for the fields... but more like mowers that tow behind a tractor, rather than a dedicated mower.

We had a 7ish’ wide sickle bar mower on the farm, a 5’ wide on the Farm-all Cub, and now a 30” wide John Deere. Sickle bar mowers a whole different kind of scary.

Could you rig up a PTO on the rear of your new Landcruiser?

Or you could just tow something like this.

Time to get a shovel, and to get to work. :grinpimp:

Also handy for when the person who was going to help with the roof ****s off entirely and you need to get sheathing up by yourself before it starts to rain. :bang:

Mirrors? On a tractor? Don't want to back up over a cat.
