I've tried that argument on swmbo to no effect.

Fortunately she gets to stay home today and I'm sure she'll spend most of it pushing around the goon spoon.:rofl:

Drive in to work was fun this morning, always adds a little extra spice when you can see the ice reflecting under the snow.
 
Snow. So what. It was -44 on site today. Supposed to be -54 with the wind in the morning. I'll snap some pics of "Jello'd" diesel fuel if the iPhone doesn't shut down. Trying to keep heaters running to heat other heaters to keep other pieces of equipment running is interesting.
On a "Toyota" note, there are three "Hitachi" engineers hating life up here right now testing their frozen mother land equipment.

Keeerist that sounds awful. Spending 4 years in the tropics as a yoot kinda ruined me for this bull****. Temperature can stay between 15 and 25 for the rest of my life and that'd be just fine...

Not to mention the silly mechanical problems you get from the cold. For example, swmbo went to plow the driveway yesterday, the old JD lawn tractor started then when she shut it off, wouldn't go again. Starter sounding sick. Turns out, the bendix had frozen.

Amazing how I can drive that thing every day for a year, without issues, she sits on it for 5 minutes and something fails.

She moved onto the kubota from there and I was dreading the next phone call :lol:
 
Started a build thread in the diesel section for the intercooler GTurbo upgrade. And for those who are curious,
yes, the grill does go back on although a mere sliver of it's original self. I've left enough in front to build a
permanent galvanized and SS wire mesh insert to hopefully stop rocks and bugs. It will reside permanently
but be able to slide it out for repair and cleaning.

Its looking good, I came over the have a look as cruiser pilot was at the stage of what to do next. I think welding the elbows onto the intercooler looks super cool instead of a couple more vibrant soft connectors and 4 more clamps. The only advice I could give was, just start cutting the rad support. If anyone in Nanaimo needs a good tig guy for a very good price out of his home based shop, we know a guy.:cool:

Looking forward to seeing this thing really wake up on the freeway, you can get a lot more out of a 12ht without reducing longevity with a mild tune.

Eight years ago when I did my first front axle job:

And yesterday when I finally scrapped the e-hubs and did another rebuild. Thanks to @stevebradford for the FJ40 hub/spindle/hardware! I found a great deal on new Aisin freewheel assemblies at Partsouq - also bought hub hardware, and axle seal kit there. Rotors from rock auto ($27CAD each!). Brake hardware and new flexible hose from Napa. Bearings were all still good, so just reused them. Gave everything a good clean and re-paint as well. I'm sure the cruiser purists out there will flame me for putting some rtv silicone on top and bottom of the knuckle to keep water out of the kingpin bearings. I did this with my first axle rebuild too, and it worked great. 99% squishes out, so there is still solid contact. Also I did not put it around the cone washers... Pics are as of 10:30pm last night - just got it put together. Need to bleed brakes and cruiser will be back on the road.

I'm reminded of that video of a Toyota being assembled by two technicians wearing white lab coats and white gloves .

After the digital torque wrench beeped they'd point sternly at each bolt with the white gloved index finger as if warning it to stay put. :lol:

Haha, yeah, all the paint and stuff is really not necessary I suppose. But I must admit, everything came apart in way better shape and easier this time than it did the first time.

Now I just have to figure out why my newish front Dobinson coils are bent weird. I think my front axle has a touch bit too much caster correction...not sure if the non-parallel spring seat surfaces would cause this problem, or maybe the coils are bad. Must read into it I guess....
 
Looking good! Rear windows turned out nice. "take er' fur a rip bud" down to the pub and see how much is left on that back deck.:hillbilly:
Haha probably wouldn't be much.

Most would come off just from the G forces of acceleration :lol:

This is just the back shed to front shed move...loooow speed.




These would help. Shipping might be a bit steep tho 😭
