When I was a kid on the farm, we used to castrate the calves the hard way for many years (before getting smart and buying special elastic bands/tool, lol). Anyhow, I remember our dog at the time loving eating fresh bloody balls all day.

My job around that time was keeping the branding irons RED HOT! Ahhh, how times have changed.

Heh, and when my daughter gets a bit older I'm going to keep one of those elastic tools around. When the boyfriend's come over and ask about it, I'll happily explain.

Alternatively a burdizzo... We had one on the farm and it left very little to the imagination.

I remember a buddy and I helping my dad once with this. Neighbor came over with what looked like bolt cutters.

We were given a rope to hang onto over the wall of the stall.

Everything was calm, then there was a crack, a bellow and the rope launched the two of us at the wall...

Steer never forgave us. Used to taboggan down a hill out back. He was always out there, pissed off and chasing.

Raised the stakes a bit. You did NOT want to miss the gap in the fence at the bottom, he'd crash into the post about 5 seconds after you went through.

Like the joke about kids today when they go out...

Parents now--"Here's a cell phone, make sure you call every hour to let me know where you are"

Back then, " We're going to go play in the abandoned mine, maybe taunt a thousand pound animal with horns"

" Ok. Dinner's at 5"

That’s big time money to us cheap/economical DIY’ers. Should get your boat making skills put to paper and work out a design. That could be quite entertaining and I bet in the end would be far cooler!!

I've actually been thinking about building something for the back of the 40. Light, maybe a pop top, but it'd definitely need at least one pull out...

If I kept it as low as the headache rack I could pull it up into the rafters when not in use...( so like ALL the time  )

Boat actually just left an hour ago. So I'm standing in my cavernous shop and it feels weirdly empty.

There's definitely room for some sort of silly little car or another cruiser...:hhmm:

Drywall work is so crazy expensive.

But almost worth it... Gawd I hate it.
Yep. It sucks.

At least I don't have to make it inside of a house perfect. One dose of tape and mud and that'll be good enough.
Minimal sanding, if any.

Shop being empty was just a good time to do this, and I'm sick of the ratty looking plastic and pink insulation hanging overhead.

Should brighten it up a little in there at least

It'll make a huge difference. When we built an addition over half the garage, half the ceiling hag to be drywalled to meet code requirements... way brighter afterwards. Now I wish Id had him just do the rest of it at the same time... probably would've only cost a few hundred extra at the time... now I feel like I'll never get to it. Also the costs of materials are way up since ten years ago when the rest was done.

4x8 of 1/2" drywall is almost 18 bucks now. It's crazy.

I know for "code" it's supposed to be 5/8" ( if not 2 layers and fire taped insert massive eyeroll) but I'm not killing myself trying to get to code.

I could do all that and they'd find some other reasons to fail me so this is what it gets.

I just want it less s***ty and brighter

I have a drywall lift and thank **** for that. Not sure 12 footers would even be possible without it.

You get over the fear of having 12 feet of drywall suspended overhead by a s***ty Chinese friction brake surprisingly quickly 🤣
