Toyocom OBD1 reader review

I'm finding placement of my phone is key to keeping steady signal. So far it seems lower/center in front of the console closer to passenger side is the sweet spot.

Any updates from those of you having no data showing up sometimes/all the time? Bad units? update to the app needed? other?
Mine said it was "paired" the other day, but zero data in the fields.
Have you tried a different device or updating the OS? I have an older Android tablet that no longer has updates available, contacted the developer and he was going to look into it (something about adding it to a device list on his end and had to hunt through a bunch of error logs). I'm pretty sure it's due to the version of Android I'm running. That was quite a while ago and I'm sure it's low priority. I have tested two other devices that work (they just aren't mine).

A few months in and I'm still very impressed with the Toyocom. Threw a code today and a whole lot quicker than jiggling a paperclip I was able to pull a code '71' off my reader. What I haven't been able to figure out is how to clear codes through the app. Anyone have success with this? Also, I have two gauges that I can't switch from analog to digital (idle and rpm). Where is the toggle to switch between analog and digital on each gauge? Probably been staring right at both but if you know thanks in advance!

@leucadiacruiser you cannot clear code from within the APP you need to disconnect the battery and push the brake pedal. OBD1 doesn't have this feature.

I suggest you will keep your Toyocom in a safe place because J F is not going to make more in the near future. Writing the App and building the contraption is his hobby, it is not fool proof industrial device some of the customers didn't understand that

No toggle switch just Swip and slide it to the side

If you tap on a gauge you will get it on full screen, tap again you back to multi screen

Thanks @Desert Dino 👍 I knew it was going to be something as easy as that to get the gauges to digital. Yes definitely appreciate
J F's efforts on this and mine has been great. I heard back from him with the answer about clearing codes and I'm happy to keep pulling the EFI fuse if I get to read codes as easy as the Toyocom app for OBD1. I only hope he'll create the reader for the 3FE before moving on to other projects 🙏

The website shows them out of stock.. Is there facebook site that sells them and is different from the regular website?

There is a FB user group. The toyocom and the APP are all made by a french Canadian guy J F in his garage as a hobby for friends

J F is not going to make more in the near future. Writing the App and building the contraption is his hobby, it is not fool proof industrial device some of the customers didn't understand that when the last 2-3 batches failed because subcontractor used cheaper components in the last order of PCB

I installed my unit inside the rig and not in the engine compartment to keep it cool and safe.

TOYOCOM

This is for the new reader. It has the ability to ready CEL on the fly now. I love this little thing. The other day I had a CEL come on and clicked the "ready" button on my display and within 10 seconds while driving my code was pulled and a report given of the number and corresponding reference. It's great for monitoring engine temp, 02 operation, ignition timing, injector firing. Has a trip gauge, MPG estimator, MPH that can be adjusted for tire size, Battery voltage gauge, tps monitor... This thing is completely plug and play. I mounted an old android phone to the cluster with a magnet mount. When I start the truck I unlock the phone and the reader automatically connects. When I get out, I lock the phone. It's plugged to an always hot USB port. Highly recommend this tool, it can do many more things, makes having OBD1 even more worth it.

can you find the cruiser anomalies in the pic???

If I remember correctly, your rig is 1997 Toyocom is for OBD1 93-94. There are other device for 95-97 OBD2

My car was firstly registered on 1997 and the diagnosis OBD has 22 pins with the rectangular shape. I searched almost all the vehicle to check abt its manufactured year but unsuccessfully. Is there any place to find which year it was made ?

Ugh facebook
Guess I'll never end up with one of these fine dongles.
I wonder if a bulk buy would be more advantageous to his situation? I mean once it's debugged and set on PCB can't they be punched out like candy?
