We are planning a 1700mile trip next month pulling a 2500lb trailer and fully loading the GX(rooftop carrier full). I'm just trying to see what peeps are getting with a lifted GX and towing? I ask because my motorhome gets about 8mpg while towing and Motorhome is much more comfortable traveling(3yo, 2yo, 7month old) if you know what I mean.... I know there are a million factors in this but just humor me ok

Pulled about the same distance last year with similar weight popup camper and two canoes on the roof. Got 13-14 mpg but I am still running stock suspension and tires.

Towing my low profile Jumping Jack the speed limit - 5mph over I am getting 13-14mpg. I have a small lift and 265's. Probably similar payload as you. Motorhome might be the way to go, comfort factor goes pretty far!

It seriously was the worst, especially at elevation. There were some hills at 7,000ft where I had the truck in 3rd gear and it wouldn't go past 50mph. It was crazy.
That sounds like my stock-geared 80 on 35's...without a trailer. :p

Exactly what I was thinking; about my '91 80...with a 3fe and nothing in tow...Horrible.
That is why I went with a stronger motor and upgraded to the GX

Good to know that 4000lbs at 7000ft in the GX will be a chore.

I don't know exactly how heavy it was, but when I needed to rent a small tractor the GX didn't even know it was back there.
I'm wonder if I had to do this on I70 through Colorado, if I would tell the same story.

We are looking into a teardrop type camping trailer, so I am interested in the towing capabilities and keeping the towing in the comfortable range.

The teardrops I was looking at during Overland Expo were in the 1500-2000lb range...incredibly light.

I towed 6500lb bobcat around town and it wasn't to bad. I don't know If I would want to tow more than a few hundred miles with that weight.

teardrop would be nor problem

It all depends on terrain. I'd tow all day long on flat ground with no wind. Once you get into some hills with elevation and crosswind coming through canyons, it gets a bit gnarly. There was a terrible dust/windstorm in albaquerque that was so bad I couldn't get the truck over 45mph. Going through Oklahoma on flat ground I was doing 70-75mph and didn't even know the trailer was there.

I get 15.5ish not towing in Oklahoma City. Highway does not gain much, 16...
