I haven't heard anything about a high angle boot... I don't think the stock joints are being limited by their boots.... I remember hearing something about a Porche CV shaft that was supposed to handle extreme angles better and was a bolt in as I recall, but I'm afraid that's all the info I can give on that...

How do you crank up the Torsion Bar? I am adding some weight to the front, and will have to give it a couple cranks to compensate.

I see the "lots of rust" in your sig line. Be aware that it's unlikely you will be able to turn the adjustment bolts, they will be rusted solid. What will probably happen is they will snap, then you'll be stuck with no suspension. Make sure you have all the weight off the front suspension when you are working on them!

If you want to turn them up, I suggest you just go buy new ones, they're not that expensive. You will need a 22mm box wrench, and a 22mm socket on a long breaker bar. Put the box wrench on the top nut, then duct tape it in place so it can't fall off. Put something like a piece of scrap steel in the gap between the top of the bolt and bottom of the cab. Then put the long breaker bar on the bottom bolt head, be prepared to push with everything you have. Stay out from under it! Then the bolt snaps, 2 things will happen: the bottom half of the bolt will fly down and throw the wrench into the concrete, and the upper half will fly up and try to poke thru the bottom of the cab (I've seen it pierce the cab floor!) which is why you put the scrap of steel up there.

Then you thread the new bolts in, slathered with anti-sieze, with new nuts.

X2 on what KLF said. I used liquid Wrench on mine for a couple days, and drove the truck around with the liquid wrench on it. They moved without issue, but I replaced with new anyways. And yes it is very important to support the front of the truck on jack stands before messing with the adjustment bolts.

On the second generation 4Runner 1990-1995, no difference between 22RE and 3VZE. Toyota uses the same part numbers. Somebody else can check first generation 4runners, I don't have VIN#s to check quickly. On the other hand they do have different part numbers for pickup, 1989-1994, vs. 4runner, 1990-1995. Note, only one digit was different.

Don't forget the T-Bar T-100...

Just would like to add that when you jack up the vehicle let the front tires touch the ground slightly to avoid that kick back once you release the tension on your t-bars it tends to drop a few more inches once you release that tension. i agree lots of PB blaster on the bolt prior to loosening if rusted a lil bit of heat helps.

I would rather just let the bolts snap than fight with really tight ones that barely turn, and you wasted a lot of PB Blaster on. But new ones ahead of time, hope the old ones break quickly.

I have my old ones for trail spares...:steer:

Actually I don't use Liquid Wrench. I use 50% ATF + 50% Acetone instead. Works better, it's cheaper, and I use allot on the farm.

FWIW come on down to my place for a visit and we'll go out for a quick spin. Since it was raining I know you didn't take a good look at my setup when we visited but I'm running a 1" balljoint spacer kit and a 1" body lift kit and it's perfectly fine IMHO. The only reason I pulled the 33's off was b/c I wanted to stick with factory rims I'd just bought and not run spacers that made things shake b/c they were not the hub-centric variety. (National outage of 33x10.5 BFG TA/Ko's).

My body lift is barely noticable and it's been on long enough through enough stuff to have any issues arise, same for the balljoint spacers..again, all is perfectly fine IMHE. All I had to do was an alignment afterwards and I've had no buyers remorse at all with the lift setup I have. It does it's job and makes driving it fun and easy.

Give me a call and we can meet up in the next week or so. Bring some lumpia. :steer:

Aha!
