OK better late than never...

almost there! sent the ECM to Oklahoma for programming yesterday and it's already on it's way back. bought a trick 40 pulse VSS from downey that I'll install probably tomorrow, wiring is almost done finally, still looking for the right fan to put on and may still ditch that and go electric... all that's left is oil cooler, radiator hoses, fan, and the last section of fuel hose if it ever gets here, then off to the muffler shop for exhaust!

one little side issue is that I'm not sure 3/4" offset to the driver's side is enough as the motor sits slightly diagonal now. no real issue with performance as the driveline looks great, but aesthetically I'm not sure. I re-checked all my measurements and all looks cool, but I dunno- it wasn't really noticeable until I put the fenders and hood back on... I may try and shift it and see If the angles still look good- if not, then diagonal it'll stay...

sorry, no pics today, but there will be soon enough.

cheers.

Shane, why don't you just move the trans over a bit to straighten things out. Sorry I missed you on Sunday, but I got way busy with the kids. I'll try to stop by during the week maybe. It sounds like your getting close.

Dynosoar

P.S. I have a good used oil cooler if your interested.

some pics finally.... :D

took Dynosoar's advice and moved the tranny over about 7/8" nice and straight now!!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

pics in no real order are of the new P/S hose I had made from my local parts guys, the installed gauge cluster, the factory ECM mount installed on the DS fenderwell, the new alignment of the motor in relation to the radiator, and the overall look of the vortec in the bay.

My ECM is back form Oklahoma already and ready to go (hopefully).

enjoy.

Looks good Shane !!!!
Great work dude !!

Looking AWESOME Philos1!
I know that youre getting excited!

thanks guys!!!!

browser, I'll try and get one over the next few days (might not be able to turn wrenches this weekend)...

today I got radiator hoses on, my VSS mounted (trick downey setup), made a mount to hold the air filter tube steady, mounted and plumbed my oil cleaner, and a couple of other small things.

Fuel lines STILL AREN'T HERE!!!!!! so I can't really get finished till next week :(

I forgot about setting up my charcoal canister assembly, so I'll also tackle that next session.

I'm not hooking up the A/C until I've got it driving, then I'm just gonna drop it off somewhere for the sake of my marriage (the marriage to my wife, not the tootsie roll)

very close, very close- hopefully it fires and runs OK...

pics will come when I remember the f-ing camera...

cheers.

Philos1,
Is she running yet?

nearly there... the air cleaner assembly is all done, the fuel lines finally came and I got them installed, wiring's all done, just need to get her fired- but that's the problem. Cranks, has good fuel pressure, spark, but will not fire. I'm pretty sure that my "distributor" (read crank position sensor) is off by a tooth, as it diesels after I turn the key off when trying to crank. I'll get to that tomorrow. I would have had that part done already, but I took the weekend off and had some other things to get to first.

Once I get her fired, then it's off to the muffler shop for the rest! (oh and then the A/C when I finally get it driving)

I may also have the alternator wired wrong as the charge light and the check engine light both stay on when the key is off and removed...no codes on the reader I borrowed, but that may only come up when running.

I'll try and get some pics tomorrow if I can.

how's yours doing?

Excellent work man! How about a close up picture of the pipes you put in the exhaust manifolds?

I actually decided to skip those and have the air injection deleted from the ECM (not all vortecs had them, so not all need them- It should pass Cali emissions without them)

If the refs tell me to put them on, then I'll do it.

So I still couldn't get it to fire today....
I decided to tow it to the muffler shop and have them at least get started, I also got ahead of my local swap guru and he's planning on looking at it maybe this weekend.:)

Hopefully I can have it running and the exhaust done by Monday afternoon- we'll see:rolleyes:

stay tuned...

at least it all looks good :D

Maybe a dumb question but did you have VATS turned off on the PCM reprogram?

Also Philos1..... While I can't find it right now....and it maybe in this long thread...Are there two differect Mark's kits for the FJ60 V-8 swap? I thought I read somewhere that one used the GM clutch while the ohter used the toyota clutch...is this correct?

It would appear to make sense to use (in my case with the 99 Vortec 350) a flywheel and clutch kit that fits a 99 C/K truck, and use the slave cylinder from the toyota?

hey there! yeah, I had the VATS removed from the program, so...

there are definitely two different bellhousing adapters- the MFK 560, and the MFK 371? one uses the toyota clutch and a special flywheel, and the other uses GM clutch/flywheel. Both use the stock hydraulics. I actually used a flywheel and 12" clutch from a 96-97 P/U (C1500).

It's almost done at the muffler shop, and it looks like the injectors are bad from sitting, I ordered a new spider/injector assembly from the GM dealer (stealership is more like it) and that should be that... better be, because I start a new gig this monday!

cheers.

found the problem! ME.
I wired my tach and charge light wrong.... after disconnecting them, that s*** started right up and just fawking purred....:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

So, tomorrow I'll get those handled and finish routing the rest of the stuff and be ready to drive this bitch!!!!(hopefully).

I'll get some pics tomorrow, cheers.

Good Deal. USER ERRORS suck! I cant wait to come by and see it.

Congrats.

Dynosoar :zilla:

yeah.... the little things bite you in the @** sometimes.

some pics...

first up is the exhaust, nice and snug. (so well installed, I can hang my whole body weight from it!) 2" from the down pipes into 2 1/4" cats (two of them), then 2 1/4" into a used magnaflow, then 3" single out. whole deal was around $500 with my cats. pricey, but VERY good quality install.

next is the stock fan that I trimmed with the cut-off wheel. no shaking, and it clears the bottom radiator hose, clutch sits nice and close to the radiator- I'll get to a shroud over the next few weeks or so (waiting to see if I need it or not).

then a nice shot of the overall look in the bay, still needs some cleaning, but it works...

charcoal canister and ECM mounting.

My used junkyard power steering is making a lot of noise (and looks like it's dripping some too), so I may have to pull it and exchange, but the thing drive fawking brilliant!!!! SO happy with this thing!

oh and the Damplifier works great as well, feels and sounds like a new luxury ride.

enjoy.
