Looking at this 9/85 build 60. Asking 9900. 2 owners with 168k miles. Looks great except some rust.

I don't think so, doesnt look that bad to me.

$5k tops.
Respray, and more rust lurks under the rust that shows.
Backstory: I purchased mine in 1999, with 183k miles, paid too much, just over $4k
Rear wheelwells had hidden rust, the rocker panels were beginning to rust under the chrome trim strips (they are not on the subject truck), what is the service record? I am the second owner of my 60, and it came with ALL documentation of service.

to much.
I agree with Micruz60
That rear quarter by the passengers side mudflap looks bad or maybe it is the camera angle.

Rust on these are brutal once it is bad enough to bubble to the paint the way it is on the pics. Then you have holes and it can be fixed if you can weld, or know someone who can.
I bought mine with little to no rust. Um right. once I started to dig into it and saw the bondo, I knew that was wrong.
Mine is not bad mainly wheel wells and the drivers floor. All repairable.

Mechanically mine is solid. So if it is solid Mechanically, the frame is not rusted out and the rust is minimal, get the price down.

Have you seen it in person?
If not bring a magnet. check the knuckles. check how it shifts.
Starts and runs (do not buy it if it the engine is already warm, see it start cold)
check the rust under the body. You can see almost all of it from here.
If you are able to, remove the rear panels and look at the wheel wells from the inside.

My FJ60 was the exact price and color I wanted. I bought it knowing I would invest close to 5K to make it the way I wanted. I paid 5 K for mine. so that is 10K in.
If you starting off at almost 10K, what work does it need and what are you willing to invest.

How many have you looked at? Personally i think its too high but they seem to be getting pretty pricy these days.
If i were looking at that one i would be thinking 6ish or so. If the maintenace, records, and mechanical was great i would have a cruiserhead mechanic look it over close then make an offer based on my and their observations. A hundred or so bucks for a look see is cheap advice compared to 9 asking.

I paid quite a bit less than that for a 62 a couple months ago that had 174k miles, and the PO had already repaired the body rust with new panels. I don't think it is necessarily too much rust (depending on your abilities or willingness to pay lots of $$$ to address it), but the price is definitely way too high. Also, like Mike said, the springs need to be replaced, but that could just be an excuse to throw a lift on that bad boy if you can get it for the right price.

The rear frame C channel has swelled so much from rust that there really isn't much structurally sound steel supporting the spring hangar.

Personally I'm not into rotten frames. Personally I wouldn't buy this truck because of this rot at this location.
But that's just me.

Thanks for the help. I do t think he's going to come down nearly enough to make it worth buying, so I'm going to pass.

Come on people, the frame (at least on the one pic we have) doesn't look that bad!
Either replace the C-channel by a replacement or just box it with a square box profile.
The price aside, this 60 ain't toast yet :bang:
