Tires are we tired of them??

So Brent - did you get the 285's? And is that for sure the largest REVO size? I know the old style dueler AT comes in a 305/70. So you bought 5 new tires?
I'm going tomorrow to get new rubber, before a trip to Austin for the weekend.

Yes - I got the 285's. Don't know if they come bigger - suggest you check their website. Didn't look as 285's was all I wanted to go.

I did buy 5 new tires. $725 for all five after credit for spare and rebate out the door, mounting, balanced, stems, taxes and most importantly support of a local merchant with impeccable service that takes care of his customers! Loved the owners expression when I told him the torque spec on the wheels. He promptly told his worker to hand tighten.

Tirerack has them at $152 per tire, then you'd have to ship them and pay a local shop for the stem, mounting and balancing. Interestingly, the factory Firestone/Bridgestone shop accross the freeway from my guy was $75 bucks higher for 4 tires.

acf - yes, speedo will be off 5.4%. As for the computer??

Wondering if was referring to the wheel/speed sensors as related to ABS possibly misreporting ? Anyone?

The Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos are beautiful tires- quiet on the road, decent for mild to moderate wheeling. As for price, I got my local Firestone dealer to price-match tirerack.com's $150 price so it was $450 out the door.
How did you get away with 3 tires? 150 + 150 + 150 = 450?

I know most people don't consider them, but I ran a set of ProComp ATs on my 4Runner and they worked great. They're severe weather rated and are 50,000 warrantied. . . They're now on my buddy's Tacoma and still going strong after quite a bit of mileage.

Just a thought.

acf,

>> because it will throw "the computer" off <<

Technically he is correct. There are a lot of computers in your vehicle. There is the computer that controls the shifting of the tranny, the main ECU that controls emissions, the computer that tells the SRS how fast you're going, and more.

The easiest solution is to acquire the speed sensor gear that Christo sells. When running 33" tyres (285/75 or 305/70) it will put your speedo and odo very close to actual and it's an easy install and relatively inexpensive. The tranny will shift at the proper speeds and all sensors and ECU's will be accurate.

That being said, it's not a big deal and I seriously doubt there would be any problem without the VSS gear change.

Ok - before and after pics snapped at tire place as promised of old Michelin LTX 275's (bottom pic) vs new Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 285's (top pic). 285's really fill out the wheel well much nicer. Added 1 1/2" to overall height of truck, now at 78". Total clearance to garage 79 1/2, whew! :D

Spare does fit but not much clearance in back to hitch or front to bar that runs between the rear wheels (sorry don't know what it is).

Brent,
You've got the bug. :D

Next up:
1. Slee armour (Sliders, rear tyre carrier, front bumper)
2. Skid plates
3. Winch
4. Some real tyres that sing and have knobbies
5. Some mud and scratches instead of those tiny golf bag scuff marks.

Good GAWD man, tint those front windows!

I just did mine last weekend, looks much nicer from outside the truck, takes a bit of getting used to from inside though.

I never get tired of looking at white cruisers....

LOL! :D

Yea - boards like this can be habit forming (I'm a lifer now) and expensive.

1. Wish I had the disposable $$. All get's spent on #5 part 2 (the golf habit).
2. Probably not.
3. Nice bling but would be all weight and show for me.
4. Naw - need the road manners.
5. Minor ones from ski trips and scouts. I'll stick with the :princess: stuff compared to some of you guys (hint - guys that put wives underwater, hehehe).
6. You forget the snorkel bling bling. hehehe

If I weren't in and out of the rear hatch so often I'd at least consider a rear tire carrier on the OEM bumper. I think I've seen someone post a setup like this so I may do a little searching. With a medium OME spring setup, I don't think I would want the Slee armour, as nice as it is. Maybe the sliders. Only because the running boards are getting beat up after 10 years of use.

Doc - not 'legal' to tint those front windows in Kalifornia. Law enforcement no likey. I'll just stay with OEM. I to love white trucks.

It's not legal here in Iowa either, but it's not enforced at all.

Of course, we can run open headers too.... but that's another story.

Zoinks - Man it ain't fre wants $515 for the Kaymar OEM bumper rear tire carrier. Id does include the license plate mount, extra lights etc. but wow. Quick internet search does't yield anybody else that carries it. Didn't see it on Christo's site either. Looked there FIRST.

:flipoff2: Nah.....not a good enough excuse. I store my clubs at my course. Rarely have them in the cruiser unless I'm going to play elsewhere, and no reason to do that. Dues are high enough at my own club to go pay to play elsewhere also. :D

OTOH, I have seen a small carrier for the back of a Mazda Miata designed to carry two sets of bags. hehehe I'll get a Miata yet for a commute car and keep my cruiser for everything else.

Well, I got my Revo's today; and even had a little rain shower this evening to try out the wet traction. Really feel solid on the road. Wish I had taken before and after shots, but I could just copy Brent's - since they're both white 97's. Except I have mud flaps instead of runnning boards. 285/75x16, no problem fitting the spare. 500 mile test ride tomorrow to Austin.

Brent,
That looks really nice. Is that stock suspension? I just ordered mine today ( Revo 285s) but its in back order maybe a week or two. Can't wait on mine after seeing the before and after pics.
