WOW! Have been a fan of portals/MOGS for along time...and more recently LC. All I gotta say is...I want one. Make mine a TD too

Yes, they do a little but they are massive and with the Volvo 6X6 I had it never was an issue and I wheeled the crap out of it.shocker said:
TiredIron-lookin at your web-site photos and just a quick glance. VERY COOL BTW. I would say you will GREATLY increase areticulation with the right shock set up. Because it looks to me your shock mounts (on the rear axle installed picture) near the stock location in relation to the portal drop and the axle housing is sitting at stock height, it appears that your shocks are severely limited from the get go. You could probably go with 14" shocks w/o new springs and see a much larger droop. Otherwise, check out ActionJackson's web site and see his double shock set up-he created a new stud on the control arm w/ OME shocks and went near to the stock upper mount-I would guess this way stock shocks would be about sized correctly.

I think I will order a set of 2" heavy springs and shocks today, I think the 3" would be too much lift. I kinda hate to go with larger springs I like being able to say "Sure, you can run 38s on stock springs"
It's been discussed before I think, but the difference between the OME medium (851/860) springs and heavy (850/863) springs is about an inch in height, as the spring rates are the same.

If you just want 2" of lift, you might want to go with just the "medium" springs. Talk with whoever you order them from to be sure, though.

Unless your plans involve lots of weight, I would consider medium springs in the rear and heavies in the front. This will sit near level and give ~2" of lift. Doesn't seem like much more lift than that would help you.

I put the new springs and shocks on today, OME 2" Heavy in the front and OME 2" Medium in the rear, the shocks are also OME. It gave me about 3" more lift in the front and 2" in the rear so it almost sits level now.
As for the road speed I was running 2550 rpm at 60 mph, 2700 rpm at 65 mph, and 2900 rpm at 70. I'm very pleased with how it handles, it's very smooth with the new shocks and springs. The front approach angle is 41 degrees and the rear is 45.

i see your in kingsport. i am just down the road in cleveland/chattanooga. your rig is sweet! i have dreams of something like that for my 94, but still my daily driver, so not yet. next time im close, i will have to come check that thing out!

I heard that portals have a speed rating. (i.e. the portal boxes can only spin so fast, so you can only go X mph.) Have you found this to be true? Also, where can I get more info on these axles. I'm thinking of selling mine for this swap. Thanks.

No, they will go as fast as the bearings will hold up. The portal is 2:1 ratio. Mine runs great at 70mph but is very comfortable at 62mph 2600rpm.
I can't wait to hear some real world wheelin' performance. Just curious if you get the top heavy feeling when off road.

We have a big "God and Country" 4th of July celebration with fireworks, food, music, military vehicles, and re-enactors. The banner is part of the fireworks display, we had over 5000 attend this year.riverguide said:
