My pig needs a new radiator so after some searching I have found an all aluminum one that matches the size pretty close. It will require some new mounting tabs and a different size inlet hose but besides that not much else. Ill pull the original fj55 rad tomorrow and put them side by side if I have the time. Getting ready to drive down to The Keys and might not have the time to.

I had this link saved for awhile an out of the blue I decided to check if they still had it. Well what do you know they did and it was even on sale. Around $150 to the door.

So if there is any pigger in need of a radiator you might want to check this out. I have not installed this yet so I if there are install problems... buyer beware.

And here is a picture of it in my shop, since we all love pictures :D

Ill keep you all posted on the install!!!

Wow that's a better deal than what I found on summit. To think, I basically paid an extra $250 for a transmission cooler.

A rad shop cannot rebuild yours?

Wasn't wild about the idea of it to be honest. I rather have a whole new one for reliability, my pig is being built to travel :D

Only reason I posted it up is because I thought it was a good deal to pass on to fellow pigheads....

An excellent deal at $150.

I tried Summit about a year ago and they charged $400 for the wrong radiator - probably a FJ40. I ended up having mine re-cored locally + an addition "row" of cooling added for almost $300. Works/cools great with my SBC 350 with the added bonus of no mounting mods.

Enjoy the Keys. I leased a sailboat there and got married on it 13 years ago. I miss North Fla (grew up in Jax) especially the sunshine - not too much of that in Seattle.

Cheers

That was a great post, I didn't mean to sound critical.
The radiators for these things does seem unique (along with everything else!), so it is great to have a source for replacement.
I just saw you mention having the original, so I thought I'd ask, plus I try to keep my Cruisers more on the original side.

~Yes it will be powering a cruiser straight 6.

~Spent some time out in the PNW, love it out there.. agree on not enough sunshine.

~Pab I agree just not in this case. I am an OEM nut as well but I was a bit peeved last time I bought a Toyota/Denso radiator (stamped made in brazil on it).

~About an inch difference between the two of them.

the radiator is definately something we need to get a consensus on. I've tried the 60/62 series-meh, itsawright, and I've looked at aftermarket. It sure would be nice to be able to get something that kinda bolts in without having to do a bunch of other mods to get it to work and fit right. I thought about completely re-doing the rad support/headlight wells to let the 60 series drop in and bolt up and still leave room for fan blades and have off the shelf hoses work without a treasure hunt. I'm waiting to see what you come up with for mounts and how well the thing goes in, but it looks CLOSE. you may have found a winner here...now get on with it:hillbilly:cheers::

Are you going to try to replicate the stock mounting tabs? I had a real hard time finding a radiator when mine in the 69' enjoyed the contact of a metal fan blade. (watch out for metal ones, I had a blade fly off and it actually went through the radiator/front engine skid plate). The early ones were lacking shrouds and looked a bit different. My local radiator shop sucked and eventually I had to fix the thing myself.

Ugh, that looks a bit taller than stock. Will it fit?
Trying to remember in my mind how much room is below the rad for yours to hang down. Not a lot of room up top...
Good luck!

40 radiators work great....in 40s. not at all a good swap into a pig IMO...

Tucker,

Have not had a chance to install it. My Tacoma got rear ended by a lifted jeep driven by a girl texting... So I have had my hands full lately... I will keep you posted on progress though.

I'm still a couple of weeks out on installing it. Pulling the whole front clip to be painted. After that it will be on to making brackets for the rad.
