I am thinking of buying a Stock 72 FJ55. It has not run in a few years but she has no rust ,:)My questions to you all is how much is she worth and how much work will she be?

PIG

need more info

need lots more info, engine condition, tranny?............pigs are works of love; it would be nearly impossible to recoup an investment in one!

Pig Value

I have bought and sold many 55. Actually my first cruiser was a 76 55 I bought in 1992. Anyway back to your Q... The most I ever sold one for was $7500 (78 w/350 sb, 400 turbo trans, new paint 35"muds...pretty nice). I have seen them go for more than $25k on ebay, frame off full resto! And there was one in the local AJC (big Atlanta paper) that was a full resto and he wanted about $50k for but that add ran for YEARS!!!

So depending on how far you want to go with this project I would say some where between $3500 and maybe $35000:D!

Sorry we can't nail it down any better than that but we need WAY MORE INFO!

Oh and BTW welcome to MUD:cheers:!

Body looks pretty good. Start pricing out some interior parts because I'm sure it's shot....they always are. Engine will be a few hundred to a few thousand.

Best thing is to have a local mechanic check it out for $80. He'll tell you if you're buying someone's nightmare.

Also, take more pics. I'd guess at $2500?? Not knowing the engine/ drivetrain condition is tough and rust might be hiding inside.

My $.02

The Motor has not ran since 04.
As for Rust, I live in Arizona so I hope not much.
Yep interior is shot, SUN BAKED.

I'll try to get into her this weekend and take more PICs.

The hard part will be getting the owner to sell her, and I won't know if she will until she gets back from Europe.

That pig APPEARS to be in great shape. It most-definitely has had a re-paint and could potentially be hiding some rust/rot. Did you say it is an Arizona rig? Has it lived there its entire life? If so, BUY IT! If that pig is as solid as it looks it is worth a small fortune. The machanicals mean nothing, well not much. That is all much easier to deal with. Rusty sheet metal on a pig however is way more of a pain to deal with. Looks sweet. Get us some more pics. Do some more snooping...

OINK! OINK!

The old saying goes that if you're not embarrassed by your first offer then you've bid too much. Throw out a lower but not completely insulting offer then be willing to negotiate up to the amount you plan on paying. I'm sticking with my $2-2500 guess as a buying price but I haven't seen it up close.

That's good advice and I agree with the opening offer too!

Well I stopped by and took more Pics, I did find a little surface rust on the front of the hood and on the drivers side floor which leads me to believe that the normal areas will have a bit more.
I finally opened the hood to find the F series motor with no obvious problems. Interior was in good condition no big rips, door panels were good too. Dash was complete. Owner comes home tomorrow, wish me luck.
