Thats funny NCFJ, I've almost used that Twain quote on here a couple of times. I keep saying it to myself when I consider doing these big jobs myself. Just because I can turn a wrench and have access to the info doesn't make me you.
Yeah priorities have shifted and shoe this is still a looming project it will be a bit before doing anything. The simple fact is that I am planning a career change in the next few months. While the new career has the possibility to make me more money it will completely change my work schedule and thus I will probably have very few daylight hours to work on the truck. The engine still runs as-is and I will continue my maintenance to keep her running strong. In the meantime I will continue to squirrel away money to make this happen down the road.

@NCFJ and @Hillhippy..... I too like the Twain quote, the other one to go along with that one is "By opening our mouth and repeating things we are voicing things we already know. But if one closes their mouth and truly listens then the open themselves to learning something new." - The Dahli Lama

My thoughts regarding DIY, and life in general...

Never be timid, or afraid to try new things...and always push the limits, because if you never fail, you will never succeed! -unknown

The other factor for me is the amount of self awareness I have developed by middle age. I trend toward laziness, sloth, procrastination, and other qualities not admirable in a person. I have to factor in all that when taking on a project. I can be high functioning when motivated, but when I am both boss and customer, forget it!

Yeah that would have been an interesting conversation with the wife when we were in NYC last week...
Me: Hey honey, I am going to go check out a truck for sale not far from here.
Wife: Youre going to what now?!
Me: Don't worry I will meet you at home when I am done...
Wife: Hope you mean you will be driving it home and living in it.
Me: ?????

Sounds like we have wives cut from the same cloth....

Me: "I'm thinking of buying this cool old truck, it's really a great deal..."
Her: "That's fine, which two of your cars are you selling first?"

Y'all are doing something wrong, my wife encourages me to buy more vehicles, of course that is how she ended up with her 80. You can always buy her jewelry, "Diamonds, that'll shut her up"

LOL!!! Glad that I am not the only one in this boat... I wish my wife loved my truck as much as I do but that has yet to happen. Tried my damnest to get her into an FZJ80 but she found a 4Runner she liked before I could find an 80 she liked.

Mine does this...
Wife: You got a brown box today? What's in it, more parts for the Land Cruiser I assume."
Me: Well yeah, this or that wasn't working properly so I had to replace it with a Toyota part since it was still available.
Me (next day): Hun you got a large brown box today? What is it?
Wife: You like car parts I like shoes....
Me: Well played..
