After decidingto fix my wipers, one speed, and never returned to home, I had a look and the PO wiring was rubbish!

So ordered a new one off eBay, low and behold the new motor is about 1cm too big and the cover won't fit on!! The wipers work prefectly!!

You can see the last 2 pictures so my existing and the new part numbers!!

The FJ40 is a 1978 so checking now I thought the bigger motor should have fitted!!

Any idea on where to fine the smaller motor, or make the bigger one fit??

The bigger motor does work way better in my opinion. You can find the bigger cover. They are getting hard to find. I found one last fall on Ebay for cheap.

I do have the smaller motor if you would rather go that route. PM me if you are intersted.

I think I still have a few of the larger covers.

Sounds good, could you DM me the info? Do the large covers still screw into the same holes?
The larger cover is longer, can't remember if it is deeper. The bolt spacing on the side of the cover is the same and should match up. I used a rivnut to secure the other side. So I have 3 out of 4 bolts holding it down. Get the wiper cover gasket from City Racer.
I'll get you a pic as soon as I can.

I ran across the larger motor issue last year when I was rebuilding my w/s frame. I had to use two frames to make one. My original frame had the larger motor and a chrome rusty motor cover which is the is red one in the pic. The chrome/red cover was altered to fit the motor(checkout the pic). I wanted to use the green cover but found it wouldn't fit the larger motor. I had a large cover on the shelf and found the bolt holes were different. I ended up reusing the altered red/chrome cover in the end, because it fit. The only thing I could figure was the larger motor was a replacement. I tried to use the smaller motor but it looked like the wiring in the plug was different and the wire pigtail was ran differently.

Like mentioned need larger cover you will need to drill two new holes in your window frame you can if lucky drill a round hole in the end of the small cover and make it fit but need to be accurate drill a hole big enough for the tip of the larger motor to slightly poke through. I had a cover like that the PO drilled the hole perfect the motor sealed perfectly in the hole I didn’t even notice it sticking through until removing the cover it just looked like a bulge in the cover. Only notice it was a hole when I removed it to replace /service the motor. Just thought I would mention it for someone creative. lol. Easier to drill two new holes for sure.
