Are you happy with the results of the Eastwood Chassis Black. My FJ40 is coming apart to do the LS engine swap and I'd like to use that product on mine. Did you spray it or brush it? You went over Eastwood's rust converter?

The eastwood chassis black over the converter sprays down good. I did use a small can of the brush on, on some pieces it would be good for inside frame areas. I had trouble getting it to lay flat but your mileage may vary. Sometimes its hard to see where you've been if you use black converter and then top coat with black. I was hoping it would be a little tougher then it is. I have scuffed it in a few place putting my rear frame member and spring hangers back on. It was a snug fit tho mostly my fault. As for long term I cant give any opinion on that yet. This is the only product like this I have used. I may try another product else where to compare.

frame mounts bent and welded! the kid has come to a conclusion about the 40

Minor delay. Had to remake the rear hanger brackets. I forgot the replacement rear frame member was thicker then stock. these did pull a little when i welded them nothing the old enerpac press couldn’t straighten out.

ok so after being humbled 2 times by rear spring hangers. I have gotten the best of them this time. fits right on and bolts up. i did have to put them in a press to take out some of the movement the welding did. should have a jis bolt kit from overland metric on wednesday.

These look great! Any interest in making another set?
i have been asked by a few people. i try to make a few extras while i’m in the process most of the time is in the set ups. with me making them at work i’d feel guilty using their machines to make money. there fine with me challenging myself to remake parts. i do have a few extra body mounts i made. the seems need to be welded and i can do that at home. I do still have the files and if i get a wild hair and make a few sets i’ll let you know.

ok get back at it a bit here. got the ccot passenger fender fitted and then sprayed some weld thru primer on the never to be seen again surfaces to wish them well. Then drill out two of the front fender bolts that broke off when i removed the garbage ones. Was able to retap them and of course i had to try one on.

Back in action took everything off the passenger fender and removed it. Broke 6 bolts. Also a friendly reminder that half round part of the fender brace it collects rocks and dirt mine was stuffed full. Tomorrow hopefully get the fender aperins (sp?) sandblasted and primed. Yeah two of the bolts in each of them broke off and need drilled out. Life in the rust belt at its best!

Another day of biting on this elephant. The refresh is going good. The goal is to slow the frame from getting any worse and weld the tub up then in a bit do a real job on the frame. Splash shield got the 1/4 of crud scraped off of it and rust sanded down then painted. battery tray rotted from the inside out. Ill have to source another option. Used a few new bolts.

You know that those front leaf springs appear okay from here. The fact that they have not fatigue-cracked or lost their curve is not something that could be said for many rigs.

that is good to hear about the leaf springs. borrowed @SMG bib hinge pin idea. fitted up the passenger fender and installed the re-cored radiator. the ccot fenders are not too far off just a bit of tweeking and they will be good. It’s the first time i can put the hood down in some time. probably be all for this week. I have to get the building cleaned up for a birthday/first communion party on saturday. Feeling good about the progress!
