I just read through the entire thread and I will say that (as a sheet metal worker, owner of a metal fab shop and former bodyshop/paint supplier) that your skill and perseverance is exemplary and uplifting. Beautiful FJ40 thanks to your hard work and considerable skills. I have restored several vehicles, some were in pretty bad shape but this time (getting older!), I chickened out and bought an FJ with an Aqualu tub and the paint and bodywork done.

Just had to add to the chorus of "well dones!" :)

Thank you for the kind words

Working on a grab bar for passenger side. Hopefully it will work with the dash pad when i get it cleaned up. Yes the door barely clears it.

I would consider doing an alcohol proof liner in that new tank before I installed it. An extra layer of some sort of paint/undercoat where the support pads go would be a good plan.

Back in about 85 my 72's tank started to weep in a section of a seam. I bought the alcohol proof liner from JC Whitney. I followed the directions for prep and install to the letter. The tank has never had any issues since that treatment.

There are some treatments that don't have good results. Red something comes to mind. I think I read about that here on mud.

Hard top patch is in the works. Trying to delete the 80’s sunroof that was installed. There may or may not be a youtube video. Just depends on how the footage comes out. Starting out laying up a fiber glass weave to help get the contour. Things are still up in the air…..

Well alright progress is being made. used a 1/8” abs panel as a filler core. Six layers of chopped strand mat. I used Total boat epoxy. We will see how it turns out. my first fiberglass layup. Watch a lot of fishbumptv on youtube.
