Hey mudders. I've been much more of a reader vs. poster thus far, but i wanted to get some professional opinions on this rig i'm considering buying in colombia and restoring (to potentially export and sell). Needs a lot of interior work (dash replaced, seats, etc.), but a 55 original diesel?? Any comments or opinions appreciated.

Also, I'm located in Medellin if anyone else is down here.

I bet that's not the original engine (nor the front marker lights, bumpers, hood ornament), but that might be a nice Pig to fix up and drive...

Looks like it ate a bj70...from behind...

Oooh but it has ambby doors!

Looks like at 14B-T the bigger borther of the 13B-T... Definately not original.. is it a 5spd?

I'm going to put a 15B-FT in my 55.. Hopefully will have a more polished air filter setup than the donaldson he has here.

I was looking on google images for a 78 fj55 engine image, w/o much luck. So, this most likely isn't the original? it's a 4 cyl. i need to dig deeper prior to a 5 hr trip to look at it evidently. muchas gracias amigo.

Thanks for the reply, and info.

Thanks for the reply. I never stop learning here.

So, could this 4 cyl diesel (maybe 14B-T) is definitely NOT original? (and agree the air filter system is interesting). It's manual, but I don't know if it's a 5 spd. attaching a pic of the interior that needs a lot of love...

It's very important re: the usa importation side w/ customs. i.e. w/o proper papers (re: original importation records, motor, etc.) I've learned not to waste my time.

Thx again mudder nation!

Amby, short for ambulance doors. US only got a tail gate style for the rear door. Other markets got ambulance doors, aka amby.

unfortunately, this truck appears to have been assembled from several other trucks. Of other makes and models. I'm not even sure if the passenger inner door skin is correct. someone did do a lot of work on this truck. that is for sure. it even looks like they had a plan, but it is not what most here would recognize as an FJ55...might not be a bad idea to get it dialed in and see what your local market can render, before going down the road of exportation. HTH

Thanks to everyone for the insight and education. I know very little about the piggys, but I'm eager to learn. Based on the general opinions here, she's not a good candidate. Too bad, here's not a lot of em, that's for sure. Even down here.

I did find another one, but it's unfortunately located in Venezuela. Maybe I'll change the post title to The SA pig hunt and post some more pics if I can find more. I have 3 FJ40s now, 2 of which are headed to Houston in about a month.

Here's the *advertised* 1973 FJ55 (winch not included)

It's hard enough shipping out of Colombia. And Venezuela is a hot mess right now... but she's sooo perty.
Ok boys n girls, how about this one? I'm guessing the motor isn't original, and another interesting air cleaning system.

Also, what are the years of the pig?

1FZFE??? it looks clean. people will want to know about the swap. Fuel plumbing, electrical, etc....

I want to know more about that front end. can you post pics of the spring buckets and panhard drop? not sure about the mount for that damper, but I am planning a radius arm front suspension for my pig- going on about 6 years now...anyway.

people here read things by pictures, and receipts. HTH

Yes, she's clean, but if it's a 1FZFE, etc. and not the original motor, it will be VERY difficult to import on this side. Possible (if the engine was originally built to USA standards, but in this case, beyond doubtful). That's the rub with all these 50ish year old beauties...

And sorry re: more fotos. there are a couple more pics on the ad, but tbh, I don't even know what a panhard drop is, and trying to translate that to spanish will not go well.

Motor swaping is the biggest deal killer down here.

Looks like the search goes on.

I don't think that is a panhard bar anyway. It has to be a frombie tierod because you dont dampen a panhard.

Are you looking to import for yourself or to sell?

panhard is there, I think- I thought I could see it in front of the axle house. the damper is attached to the relay rod and radius arm...all things considered, might not be the worst place to mount it
