Dan, do you realize there will be a big solar gain? Shiny waxed paint reflects a lot more heat than rough polyurethane.

Yep. Several factors play into that:

1. No longer a DD since I got a company car.
2. I will be towing it to the trail with the diesel.
3. I plan on getting a color mix and keep my two tone silver/charcoal thing.

I was getting ready to do this and am taking it to Rhino lining today to get a quote...do you know the difference btw linex and rhino?? and would you be able to give me an approx cost?? Thanks
and how did you get the center rails off...I know it has been covered but I can't find it in the search...that's the only thing I have left to do.

Pry them up and pull them off, then use an eraser wheel on an electric drill to get the gummy goop removed quickly.

thanks Beowulf...you can find that eraser wheel anywhere? I also got a quote from Rhino and they seemed to think it wouldn't be a problem...they were going to grind down the remaining nutserts but I told them I didn't want them to because I didn't want them to fall in...what did they do on yours Tyler?

So right now I am set up to get it done next wednesday...they said they would charge an extra $25 to take off the tape for me....pretty tempting.

Here is what I got done today...thanks tyler for the idea. I think they did a great job and love it!!

Well I put a few things on it already but I have a slee 6" lift, sliders, skids, and rear bumper ready to go on, as well as a new brass radiator and other pm mods.

*Dr Evill laugh .. * ;) . Lookin good Clark!

Curious if you sealed the holes first or not.

Thanx fr the update .. I've been busy, but was curious to see how you made out.

Thanks...you had a great idea!! I had them seal them with something and grind off the surface rust before they laid down the lining......by the way does anyone know if there is a difference btw Rhino and Line-X.

I told them I was going to use set screws like you had but he said they had some special stuff to seal the holes with that they use all the time and not to worry about it. all the easier for me....I don't see how anything could get under that lining anyway....so mute point. I also paid them $30 to take off all that tape...I figured it to be well worth my time aggrivation and sore thumbs. I have found it hard to practice dentistry with really sore thumbs anyway.

thanks again for the idea.....you know what they say about copying

Dat rig is BADASS.

Hi, is it common practice for the 80's in the US to have a roof rack fitted as standard? The UK versions like mine https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/365673-my-lc-80-thread.html (pics further down page) never seem to get them or at least it was not an option often ticked in the dealer box.

Re the the 'line x' look, er....I am on the fence with this one, I can see the idea of sealing up holes ect and even some added sound proofing against 'drumming' from the roof however, don't the wash cloths get caught on it and make it harder to wax?

regards

Dave

Most (not all) US 80 series came with the "optional" roof racks.

Thanks for that I did wonder, as I said it did not seem to be a popular option here...well in the UK. I also recall someone having rust issues with a rack that got damaged after it was torn from the bolt holes ect.

regards

Dave
