you did very good Tyler. Those rounded corners match your sunglasses.

Ty,

You had them spell out DIIC on the top of your truck?

Very nice! One question, who's the fugly mother holding the camera? hehehe

Not trying to be rude, but what in the hell does that accomplish? Doesn't make your rig wheel any better, no more horsepower, no additional aerodynamics, black spots to absorbe heat in the blazing sun; i just am not sure what that money was spent for other than a very expensive way to fill over a couple of former rivet holes.

I'll bite; it prevents rust and can be used to carry stuff without the fear of scratching the roof paint.

Honestly I thought this was going to look bad, however I'm pleasantly surprised. It came out looking pretty good.

Isn't that what a roof rack is for, and i'm sure there is something you could apply to the spots to inhibit rust? Just being devil's advocate here, a poor boy like myself has to seriously justify expenses.

I think it looks cool, although I too have my doubts about why you'd do it. If there was a roof-rack to contain items and the items would sit on the roof I would completely agree it's a great idea. But the roof-rack was just removed, and any after-market rack would have it's own flooring so items wouldn't sit on the actual roof.

Oh well, still looks cool I think, and goes with the clear corner lights well... :D

I can't speak for Ty, but while I'm seriously limiting available funds to mods of any kind, if I had the cash to burn, already lifted the truck, sliders and other mod $$ unaffected, I might consider this as well....

Others have had hundreds of $ of metal bodywork done and spent a total of $1K+ to repaint the top......

I have not ventured into my rack yet, but from what I've seen the clear coat can get pretty messed up.....

So while I hope some ss screws and convexed washers with rubber boots will do the trick, if there is any paint damage I'd probably want to do something about it....and Ty's mod is different and cheaper than metalwork/repaint...

T, forgive me :frown: but this time i gotta stick with concretejungle :D so far he had best criticism than everyone here

I'm going the cheap route....I don't have sliders or bumpers yet :)

Good job though. I'll bet a few others will follow your lead on this.

And, it means you can stand on your roof to pick apples without slipping off!

Thanks bud. :D

ok, even if you are not aesthetically squeamish about having a bunch of bolt heads in your roof, the chewed up clear coat you find under your roofrack seats is an issue that needs attention. You can repaint the whole roof at major expense or you can do something like what Tyler did. His is cheaper than a repaint but more than $10 for rattle can paint or $25 with rattle can bedliner. It also has the advantage of adding an extra layer of seal to the bolts.

It looks sweet and is totally original and unique. A gutsy move that turned out great. You rock, dude.

Are you planning any other bedliner art elsewhere on the vehicle? ;)

Blue Line-X works wonders. It cuts down abrasion when doing U-turns under the sheets.

I Herculined 1/2 an inch of the leading edge of my LX's hood - it was all chipped up, and I knew touch-up paint was pointless, if not even rust-promoting. Will try to find pics.

Nice Job TY! Been wanting to see this for some time. I am also thinking of line-xing the roof of my 80 but will probably go for a solid area from the sunroof back to avoid those damn dings and scratchs when putting shiat on the roof rack. I'll try to go with rounded corners also. Any reason why you didn't cover a greater area? Though I do like the pattern you ended up with.
