Another custom job. Just liked the look of the anodized container.

Ok, tested restriction through the airbox this afternoon using this crude manometer.
Results:
30lb boost accelerating from 2800rpm to redline.
Spike as boost comes on 4 " water ( .14psi )
Stabilized 3" water ( .psi )
Happy with that!!!
Now to reduce overall restriction...

Can anyone tell me how much room there is to mount an airbox? I'm away from my cruiser at work for a few more weeks and I'm researching using a Donaldson filter housing but not sure how much room I have. If someone could poke around in there with a tape measure or at least tell me the dimensions of the factory box it would be appreciated.

I'm looking at using one of these if it will fit. A Donaldson PCD filter housing.

Just one thing to note about the Donaldson Power-core filters. They aren't cleanable as they actually encapsulate dust and need the filter core changed. Vs the normal radial Donaldson filters that you can bang the dust out and keep going for a bit longer.

I looked long and hard at these before finally going to a Donaldson FPG radial type.

What size did you use? Or would you recommend for a 1hz with a turbo?
Want to improve the flow while maintaining good filtration of course.
My BILs work sells Donaldson filters so I can pick up everything I need for a good price.

I'm tight for space so I went for the FPG 082526. It's got less rated flow than I need for a 4BD1T at 35psi, but I just can't fit anything bigger so I'll put up with the higher suction loss at high rpm (which I'll almost never use).

I was amazed how good the price on that Donaldson FPG was.

What's your equation for flow rate? engine volume x max rpm? What do you do to account for boost? I've seen people add 6% per every 1psi of boost.

I calculate intake density based on altitude, compressor pressure ratio and intercooling effectiveness. Then calculate flow rate with displacement, rpm and VE.
Final step is to correct back to atmospheric to get volume flow at the intake.

If you want the shortcuts.
15psi not intercooled = 1.6 times density
20psi intercooled = 2.0 times density.

ForealBoreal (or anybody else) , did you ever test your FZ lid set up? If so, what were the results? Interesting but not worth the hassle of the mod? Still running your Safari Snorkel?

Did you buy a Moonlight Fabrication box since then? If so, what are the results? What changed, and what didn't? Again, still running the Safari Snorkel?

Is it worth the dough?

Very curious about results of both honestly.

yup still running my drinking straw 3" top ram safari snorkel and the FZ lid mod.
Limiting factor is the snorkel, can't justify the moonlight box at this point as it would cost me upwards of $1000 for an airbox to canada. no thanks.

So is it that there is no real difference between "stock" and the FZ lid then? Any noticeable difference in air flow or quickness to boost? Any higher boost numbers?

BigBoy, would you please post numbers for your tests with the FZ lid for us? I do like your video snippets of your results.

Does anyone have the Moonlight box that has installed it who can show results and benefits of Moonlight? ForealBoreal, $1000CAD shipped? Yikes.

I have the FZ lid ready to go in, just gotta figure the vacuum hoses and other bits attached to the diesel lid that the FZ lid didn't have

I've been very happy with my Moonlight Airbox - crazy fast spool with that and a Hallman and awesome induction noise!
