Let me get it

If you like i can get it for you at my cost if you really want OEM,did you call NAPA or local parts house?did you check with Marlin on the trans. mount?

Well Rockauto has the trans mount for $18.00, and each motor mount for $30.00. So it seems that for about $78.00 you can have all three.

Zack

If the mounts are not torn don't replace them. No need really.

The DS mount is to blame. It always is. Cut the studs off. Drill through will a drill press. Go to Home Depot or whatever and buy a bolt, washer and nut. Fixed for less than $5 permanently.

I replaced both front mounts four or five years ago thinking it would not happen again. It did. Took the mount and put a bolt through it. Fixed. Forever. Done :D

Would this method make the mount too rigid? The mount should be able to flex right?

Zack

Yes it could make it too rigid. But if you add a piece of rubber underneath the frame mount it would help. So with a bolt you would pass through: bracket from motor, the mount itself, the frame bracket, washer, a piece of rubber, washer, nut.

I plan to add a piece of rubber. Probably an old shock bushing or something. I've been driving it without a piece of rubber for a while with no negative effects.

I just bought some hefty hardware from Home Depot. Stainless Steel. Grade 9 or 10. Can't remember which.

Other than an engine hoist, is there any other decent way to support the engine? I don't have one and it's going to take a week or two before I can get one from a friend.

A few friends suggested supporting it from the oilpan with a few pieces of wood, but im worried the pan isn't strong enough to support the weight. What do you guys think?

i used the edge of the pan flange where it bolts to the block. used some 2x4's on that edge. are you unbolting both sides or just one?

Im only replacing the drivers side, but I have them both loosened right now. I had to leave for work though, so that's as far as I got.

I'll give your method a go if I can.

I think the pan is plenty strong if you use a large piece wood (2x12) to "pad" your floor jack.

Time for an update I suppose...

Its been a while since I've updated this thread, so I suppose I have a few things to add...

I finished up replacing the bad motor mount, then it pretty much just sat there for a few weeks while I waited for my "White Knuckle Off Road" sliders to come in the mail. I got them on a Thursday afternoon, primered them and bolted them up before work on Friday, then drove out to Stockton the next day for the annual swapmeet.

The swapmeet was great this year, with a lot of trucks that I didn't get to see last year due to arriving waaaaayyy too late. It was cool to walk around and check out all the beautifully restored and/or built up rigs, and hangout with some of the people I've met throughout the last year and a half, and some that I met there that day. It was nice to finally be able to have a conversation with people that understand what a 2F, H-55, 12H-T, FJ55, etc. actually is! :flipoff2:

I ended up driving away from George's shop with a receiver hitch, a set of tail lights, the panels and grab handle for the rear hatch, a stock trans/transfer skidplate, and a spare carb cooling fan that he basicly dropped in my lap and said, "here take this too". :D

KMWalker's truck was stuck in George's shop at this point, and he had already filled up his dad's van with a set of front door for a 60 and a few other bits, so I offered to carry anything else that didn't fit, and being that I'd pass his house on my way home anyway, it was not like it was going to cost me anything to help him out. :steer:

In preparation for a trip I had planned, I made a replacement for the MAF swaybar drop link that sheared in half earlier this year, and got the swaybar re attached.

So I had decided that I wanted to take a fishing trip early in the Sierra trout season, so I took a Friday off, loaded the 60 up, and hit the road. I originally intended on going to the Bridgeport, Ca area but ended up changing plans last minute due to a few friends backing out of the trip. Instead I ended up going to Kennedy Meadows, up HWY 108 just at the base of the Sonora Pass. It was a very enjoyable solo trip, and despite not catching a thing, I ended up fishing about 3 or 4 miles of river (I'll be working on improving that this summer...). Late Saturday night I was woken up by hail beating against my tent, and the flashes and booming of lightning and thunder roaring through the valley. It was very entertaining to watch and listen to. ... These weekends never last long enough...

So now for the photo dump that seems to follow every trip I take....

Its always nice to sit alongside a river and eat lunch in the sun. :)

Later in the day I came across what I hope was the grave for someone's dog....

In the same relative area I found an old diversion tunnel for a dam. It was pretty cool, although it was starting to crumble apart.

And last but not least, the worst part of most trips; heading home.

I'll also add that I had a bit of an electrical issue develop late Saturday afternoon.

I pulled over to check out another section of river, and noticed that the truck felt a little sluggish when I made a U-turn in the lot. I then heard a buzzer go off, and my charge light came on. For some reason my truck's electrical system isn't charging while at idle, but charges fine when the RPM's come up a little. The buzzing was coming from the charge light relay in the passenger side kick panel, not sure it its supposed to do that, but it sounded sorta like an idiot alarm,... I could have been mistaken.

Any ideas on what would cause it to do that? I'm going to call one of my mechanics about working on it this week for some maintenance I need expedited for another upcoming fishing trip anyway, so if anyone has any advise that could point me in the right direction, that would be awesome.

Awesome pics. That looked a pretty cool little trip. And good choice getting the WK sliders.

Your photography skills are gettin better Darrell. Love the last one and like that you still had dust on the shutter. Keep up the good work. I am hoping to grab some fly gear this year as that is one of the things I have been wantin to do again.

As for the buzzer I don't know that that is right?! My truck used to idle super rough, like right around 500 rpm, and my light would be on buy never heard anything.

WOW , and I thought mine was dirty inside when I brought her home . thats a mess and amazing progress. looks so much better. I think Ill try removing the carpet and hitting it with the pressure washer. Ive cleaned my seats with bissell carpet cleaner, it worked fairly well but the carpet much like yours has way to much coffee and dog hair embedded like glue. keep up the great work , and pics.

Awesome pics! Ur rig is Sharp. I was wondering what kind of lift u have. The height? And what size tires?

I am honored to be mentioned in your thread but did you have to tell them my truck is down for the count?!! haha oh and you spelled my name wrong lol

come up here and fish with me, I need people to take a trip with me since im getting my guides license next year and need some dry runs to refine some stuff.

also, thanks a ton for the ride! im stripping down those doors to chop in a few days

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Greg, whats going on with mine is even weirder than your symptoms. lol the idle is right where it should be, so in theory the alternator should be spinning plenty fast enough to keep everything juiced up. It would make sense that a very low idle could cause the alternator to not charge sufficiently, but that's not the case with mine!
...its really weird...

Ohsillybilly, thanks! Interior cleaning at that level can be a real pain in the ass, but it was sooooo worth it in the end.

8960series, Thanks! I have an 4 inch OME Lift with Shackle Reversal, and 33x12.5" BFG A/T's. As for describing the height or size, I'm not really sure what to tell you, but I will say that it is big, but not as crazy as a spring over axle conversion. It suits me perfectly.
Here's a pic of me being blinded by the sun, standing next to it last November after "Surf N' Turf" at Pismo Beach. I'm about 5' 8". Feel free to browse through my Flickr page for more pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/darrell_vaughn/

Kyle, sorry about messing up your name dude! Hey, just look at it this way though, now everyone knows that its getting some awesome work done to it by George. :p And I'm looking forward to seeing those doors!

I'll actually be up fishing the Yuba River at Sierra City with my Dad the 17-19th if you want to make the 45mi drive down.

Huh... intetesting... I hit 500 posts with my update post... I think thats the third time I've hit a hundredth post on an interesting story...
