If we want to be truthful about things:

4Runner/GX/250/Sequoia/Tacoma/300/LX/Hi-Lux are all basically the “same vehicle” if we are using the TNGA-F platform as our barometer.

If that’s the case, then the 70 series is the only “real” Land Cruiser left. 😂😂😂
The Hilux isnt on TNGA-F yet.

They were all on the same (or very similar? converging?) platform only in the mid mid/late-90s and very early 2000s, after which they again diverged for the North American market and the rest of the world, and we got the comparatively smaller Hilux and the Fortuner instead of the 4Runner.

Here’s how I see it the 250 is an upgrade for 5th gen folks and a downgrade for 200 folks

Love the looks and the different trim options but I’ll keep my 200 for now

The 2nd row hump kills it for me as we sit in the back often

You do realize the 200 is smaller because of flat floor right? They just opted not to give it deeper foot wells. You could raise the foot wells with filler panels and get the same outcome.

The title is backwards. Sine the 250 is already out, logic would dictate the 4Runner is a derivative of the 250. More specifically a NA lower cost version. Think of the 4Runner as the generic version of a good thing.
What happens when the 4r costs more?

I’ve Sat in both, the 200 definitely doesn’t feel smaller for my 6’4 body.

I will say the 3rd row in the GX550 is much more comfortable than the 200.

The 250 middle row looks small. Have not sat in one yet. I've only see one once in passing on the road ever. They still aren't really showing up in the wild where I live. Just saying that a flat floor isn't really a positive to me in a vehicle that has a transmission in the middle. In a minivan? the flat floor is the only way to build it. They didn't lower the middle of the floor for the 200 though. They just raised the floor on the sides to match the center giving less foot space than it would otherwise have had with a hump. It's kinda like the honda ridgeline not having wheel wells in the bed. They raised the deck height above the top of the wheel wells and run small tire size. Didn't find more space. I'm not sure if it's more useful or not. I think I'd rather have the extra space in most cases. Especially in a midsize SUV where 2nd row space tends to be tight.

The LC250 looks like a result of styling winning over utility. All of the GA-F models so far are. They moved the cabin back and extended the hood length by about 10cm and compressed interior. That traded useful interior space for a bunch of dead space forward of the engine. An extra 4 inches of legroom for the middle row is a huge difference. Maybe that engineering choice was made with the intent of a big volume frunk in EV versions? Hard to know. As it is - it's a pretty significant compromise for a midsize SUV.

That's false logic. All these Toyota SUV's have a transmission tunnel. The hybrid system adds to the drivetrain length as the unit sits between the engine and transmission. Also, I remember mention of locating the drivetrain slightly rearward for better weight distribution.

Maybe I'm confused. I thought the LC200 had a rear driveline. Is there a front wheel drive version I'm not aware of?

Being a product planner is a tough job these days. I can only imagine what the next generation team is doing.

:)

GX looks more like a 5th gen 4Runner than the 6th gen 4Runner does. It's just a C pillar treatment away.

The red part is the WTF were they thinking issue for me. That's about 35% of the vehicle length.

They were thinking that the corporate mandate is to save money by using the hell of the frame so they need to force everything else to fit.

Even so - they could do a lot more with the frame than that. Hell, save a bunch by just reusing the 5th Gen body and it probably would have been better.

Why bother? The name plate alone will drive sales and revenue while the marketing department tells us that this is actually better. Much better.
