Quick question Lance, after I did the timing it was running great and I had what I call one bump ignition (meaning I turn the key with no throttle and she fires right up). This happened 6 or 7 times on initial start-up that same day. Before that I had to give it a little throttle to get er’ going. I love the one bump starts. Now I’m back to having to give it a little throttle each time I start it. Anyone else have this problem with the Sniper?

You can change your fuel prime in the sniper settings that could help. Other thing is what is your iac% at idle? You could be using too much iac and need throttle blade adjustment.

I have the fuel prime bumped up and that didn't help unfortunately. My IAC at idle when I'm at an operating temp of 165 gets in the 6-10 range. Prior to that it's much higher.

I found this video helpful when setting up mine. You may be past this point. They say they target 5 for the iac.
Maybe your throttle blades are too far closed and that’s why it needs the extra air at startup?

John,
I have not had that issue. Are you allowing the fuel pump to fully prime before turning the key?
I have read that the sweet spot for IAC is 5/6. I have yet to get mine there. Let us know wha happens.

Been driving the 40 all week…..the weather has been perfect. They always look better with water in the background.
If things go as planned she will topless one week from tomorrow.

Yes, I let the pump prime every time and have the fuel prime bumped up as well. The frustrating part and why it’s hard to pinpoint is after you helped me dial in the timing Sunday I enjoyed the whole afternoon with one bump no throttle starts. Then after it sat all night I went out to start it, turned the key and it tried to start but at a very very low rpm and will eventually die but to get it going I have to give it a little throttle to get it up to the proper RPM.

Mine always starts quickly however it does start at a lower RPM and then I guess the computer kicks in and pushes the RPMs up to 750

Distributor tight? Didn’t move at all?

You hoisting your top off this time or taking it off piece by piece? I think I’m going to take mine off piece by piece this year to replace my headliner.

Hoisting …. Fingers crossed next time a top goes on it will be a soft top. However the website for Dirt Road Tops is down so I don’t know if Julie is still making them

I read just a couple days ago that she is. Just super backed up. Maybe she shut it down to try and get a little breathing room

I'm looking to install some unistrut on my garage ceiling and make a hoist system.....one day, one day.

I'll be down in a few weeks if you need any help.

Just under three weeks till my 40 will be in the Salt air of 30A. I'm bringing down some goodies, a mudship for @thatcabledude ..... :hillbilly:

If time allows Thursday (4/21), Friday (4/22) or Saturday (4/23) night dinner some where in the area of Santa Rosa?

going to check this now @Skreddy, thanks for your input:). Sorry for hijacking your thread Lance. I will start a new one after I check my timing really quick.
Update: pulled out the timing light and the timing was off again. Loosened the wonky clamp that comes with the D.U.I distributor and put the BB in the left hand corner of the viewing window and really tightened it down this time. Adjusted the IAC screw and got IAC% to read 5/6 at 750 RPM while engine was at 165 degrees. Back to one bump starts with no throttle😃. The RPM’s stay a little higher between shifting gears so I’ll try and figure that out next. Thanks everyone!

Congrats!! Did you add and "Mechanics Blue goo" IE Blue Loctite to the threads before you torqued it down? Just curious. When I was researching the DUI installation I noticed @wngrog used Indian Head to seat the collar on the distributer. I wasn't sure why. Now I think I get it.....

Negative on the Loctite. When I originally put the distributor in I did use some Indian head to seat the collar but it definitely moved from when I set timing last Sunday to last night. I’ll drive it this week and report back but I think I need to find a better collar then the one provided from D.U.I….
