[QUOTE="Mr Tibbs, There is no mounting of the quarter protection to the frame. Jason has welded a backer plate on the inside of the bumper to stiffen up that area. If there ever is an issue with flex he has offered to weld it to the frame to make it stiffer.

If I know a guy is going to be in the rocks and trees and throws caution to the wind... (@The Phoenician) HEE HEE!! I made his with the side arms and if he responds he can go over that detail and report back. I copied IPORs design off their 80 bumper. Its stout as HELL and on another customers rig (@sschruff ) I had my buddy push in on the wing with his 5K forklift and the hydraulics loaded up with only about 1/4" of play in the wing. Actually started pushing Goss' rear on the driveway. We then picked the entire rear off the ground lifting from the tip of the wing by the fender well.Upward flex was approx 5/8" there.

So today I decided to begin removing the Japanese radio and old converter. I almost got more than I bargained for on this one!

The idea is to remove the existing stuff and install all of this. New converter to a fuse box, then install the new headunit with bluetooth and sirius/xm satellite radio.

During the removal of the existing head unit I found a little bit more wiring than I was expecting.

Surprise rats nest!! This kids is why you should always check the previous owners wiring.

This is the mile of wire I removed from the vehicle today. What the hell was the last guy running in here??!!

So, today I did not get nearly as much done as I thought I would because of the surprises. I did get all of the previous wiring removed and the new converter bolted to the passenger seat. Hopefully tomorrow I can finish this install!!
Just came across this post. Sorry to be a bit behind.

Mate !!! What an acquisition! Right series, right variant, right engine and now the right tyres. And she is very good condition. I share your joy. Keep up the good work to get her how you want. BTW, the steering wheel looks to be on the correct side for me!

So today I got the rest of the bumper installed. Yesterday I picked up the bumper from the powder coater and installed it. Today I got the spare and high lift mounted up. I couldn't be happier with this bumper! Jason from Trail Tailor is great to work with and builds a rock solid product. I can't wait to get the sliders from him and see what he comes up with on the wife's 70! Here are a few pics:

Whoo yea, that is nice.

Great looking truck and rear bumper!
You can see the nice beads of welding laid out. Great work!

Thanks guys! It's getting there. I think next is the lift and front axle rebuild (knuckle rebuild, new axle shafts and birfs, nerw TRE's, etc....). After that I will be working with Jason again to get a front bumper to match the front! Beyond that we will see what else the wife will let me do! Lol

Today the wife and I cruised up to Wyoming to meet with Jason again. We had the sliders/steps welded up to Stoffel and dropped off her BJ71 for Jason to mock up some bumpers on. The sliders turned out great! Jason does some awesome work and I couldn't be happier!

Those sliders are awesome! @reevesci Great idea with the perforated metal for the steps. Did you go paint or PC? (I'm guessing some VHT paint).

Just in love with the high roof. Are you planning on blacking it all out? Think Mr. Tibbs would look insanely good (I know there are two definite camps on Chrome/vs black out).

Mr. Tibbs: What year BJ71?

If the old body style I am very interested in seeing Jason's results with the front bumper.

Also your 61 looks like an off road hearse....

In a really good way.

:)
