No power steering .....yet. I have the pump set up in my garage. Also have a disc brake set up as well. New wiring harness too. Those are all on my list of stuff to try to do without killing myself in the process. Start those when the snow starts flying in December.

THE GREAT PUMPKIN LIVES!!!!

Wally just called and the truck is ready to go for the big weekend. He swapped the motor and trans, replaced front drive shaft, tweaked the rear drive shaft, added my elec fuel pump, adjusted and fixed carb, some wiring fixes, and probably a ton of other s*** he didn't even mention. This might sound a bit fruity but Wally is my hero.

Picking it up Thursday and heading straight to the Fall gathering! Should have some cool pictures for the thread next week!

Kinda brings tears to your eyes dont it:crybaby:

Fast and cheap? Nice

I can see the grin from here :D

Great weekend! Pumpkin performed great!

I have timing and idling issues to sort out. Kept stalling when the idle went low. Ran very rough but I have no idea what's inside the engine for a cam. Also have a huge transmission leak after a battle with a rocky riverbed. Cracked a hole in the exhaust as well so helped out with the louder noise. Many electrical grounds to chase as my directionals went out but my digital clock turned on. Need a new driveshaft as the vibrations were very bad.

First step, transmission then driveshaft.

Officially not selling the Pumpkin ever (if I can help it) Happy as hell!!

Minor issues I say.
Important thing is you made the gathering.
Pumpkin looks good out on the trail:cheers:
Kinda blends in with the fall colors -

:lol:like camouflage

Was fun as hell.

getting the disc brake swap done next tuesday and weds. ordering a new driveshaft in the next 20 minutes. I'm obsessed with getting it running well quickly.

Just had my driveshaft straightened and balanced today. Only $65. The guy said it was WAY out of whack. He said acceptable variance is .015 and mine was .03. Not good. He said there are some dents so it might twist up at some point so I'll need a new one someday.

Can't wait to have a non-vibrating cruiser!

WOW!!! Got the driveshaft on and what a difference!!! Drove it at 75mph up the hiway for 45 minutes and no more shaking. HUGE difference!

Went to an exhaust place and got some minor holes fixed. Very quiet and no more fumes.

Just got the timing done. 30 degrees advanced. Definitely has a huge cam in it. Found out that the engine is actually a racing motor. It was built for a local stock car and was never installed. It was sold to the owner before the owner that I bought it from. Basically it's a new racing motor. Not the most ideal engine for the trails but since I'm only wheeling a couple times a year, it'll do fine.

Runs 100x better. Very happy. no more stalling or high revving idle

Yeah....went beyond the timing light. Might need to pull that cam at some point soon. It runs for now so I'm happy.

Getting a weird crunching sound when I stop. checking the Xfer case fluid tonight. Stripped the fill plug. Fun.

Just got the pumpkin back from Wally's. He did the disc brake axle swap in the past 48 hrs. My donor axle came off that 40 which has a lockrite locker and longfields in it. Turns out the longfields were 1 generation and they were junk. Bearings were shot and the axle shafts had rust. Wally replaced all that stuff and put new seals in as well. Also had to fix some steering components that were mis-matched.

Stops great now, steers better, and much less rattling. Just drove 3 hours on the highway at 70 mph. Sweet. Decided I'm selling my BMW and gonna use the Pumpkin full time.

I also just bought a 1980 BJ40 from AU with a rebuilt B engine in it. Original paint, interior, etc. Very nice and the exchange rate from AU is great right now even with the economy in the crapper. $.65 to the dollar. Tee hee. +Getting a 5 speed, discs, and other goodies done to it before it ships. Between these 2 trucks I'll have great wheeling and great gas mileage.

pic

I've done a crap job of adding pics. here's a crappy pic. I'll bust out the good camera next time I do something meaningful. Pic of the engine bling
