Well, that's the range goal anyway  I like optics!

Wait until your sight goes :flush:, then you'll love optics! :)

That's why this close in rifle has a 2.5x scope in a a Scout style mount ...

Picked up a M&P FS .40 from a local guy for a screamin' deal I think. $340 out the door for a slightly used gun with trijicon night sights and one mag.

Nice score!!

Remounted the scope and put ~60 rounds through the rifle without the scope loosening up (100 yards). Score! Majority of the low shots were as I was sighting the scope in I think. Starting to bring it in:

Johnny - That looks fun!

I shot my AR-10B this weekend and it shot horribly. It was blowing tons of dirty gas into the chamber - wasn't wanting to close, jamming, etc. :(

Did a little research and found that the ArmaLite Ar-10 actually uses a slightly longer and smaller diameter gas tube.

Got on their site and ordered the tube just to compare.

It came in today.

Sure enough . . .the "gunsmith" who originally built this AR used a AR-15/LR308 gas tube which is about 1/8" shorter and bigger around.

My gun was not closing well around that larger tube and there was excess space inside the bolt carrier key.

Removed everything, put the new gas tube in the gas block, cleaned everything thoroughly and put it all back together.

I look forward to trying it again - I have a feeling it will shoot nice now. Something just didn't feel right before and now it feels great in there!

Updated pic with the Harris bipod and GGG adapter for the rail.

I can see where that would peak some interest :hillbilly:

Wait ... you asked for permission?

I thought it was always better to ask for forgiveness later ;)

You might want to look at a Liberty Fatboy. When I was in the market about 18 months ago, factory blems (paint only) were available for a couple hundred more than your limit - the cheapest I found was in Hendersonville - way cheaper than here in Charlotte.

Fatboy Jr.s should be readily available at your price point

Grip Updates - P

It was time to update grips on a couple of pieces ....

First up was a P938. I had tried Houge rubber and VZ grips on it, but did not like those. I finally broke down and had a set of half checkered Cocobolo grips made. Since they were not in stock, I was able to get them made a little thicker to fit my hand better. I like the results.

I had been looking for some Stag Grips for this pistol and finally stumbled upon a set ..

Now they are installed ... almost too nice to shoot ;)

I love the look but am a little bummed. After this picture, I discovered that I had to do a little fitting on the grip so that the ambi-safety would clear in the off position. Despite being very careful and removing the grips to fit them (a gazillion times), I managed to gouge the finish on the ambi-safety pretty badly. :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang: Unfortunately, it is a proprietary finish, so I guess it'll be going back for some touch-up. :(

not a bad group of 10 shots. 2.5 inch spread at 25 yards

It's time for a safe upgrade and about $1500 is the upper limit. The cannon I have now is okay but cheesy thin shelves inside and annoying internal hinges that won't allow door to open all the way.

Anyone know Fortress?

Have you looked into Drake Safes? Very well built, heavy duty, and custom sizes/features available. Made in Roxboro. He's got a booth at the GSO gun show this weekend.

I like the looks of those. They only appear to come in 60" height. Not a requirement but I like the idea of 72" since I can go more "up" and less "wide"
