The pops and I are going to look at the candy ass red 80. He wants a pristine low mileage 80. This might do the trick.

Not worth anywhere near $15k.:meh:

95, no lockers, candyass red. Worthless.:meh:

Some 95's are better than others, check the build date and look for the OBDII compliance sticker under the hood.

Good point!

Some 95's are better than others, check the build date and look for the OBDII compliance sticker under the hood.

When I went for my ADEQ check, there was a line for '96 and newer and a line for '95 and older.
For '95 they were opening up hoods and probing tailpipes...seemed like a big hassle.

For '96 they plugged into OBDII port and checked gas cap.

The test seemed to be much easier/quicker for '96 vehicles.

But, that does seem like a nice '95. And Rob's a fan :meh:

My understanding is that all 95s are OBDII compliant. The problem is that emissions treats them as OBDI, so they go thru the cavity search. I just went thru this with my Taco. Has OBDII computer and would have passed the OBDII test but couldn't pass the pre 1996 test. Over three bills in unnecessary repairs to pass a test that shouldn't have been applicable.

Damn, sorry about your Taco, that is a bunch of money to spend on a BS repair.

Not sure what your saying about the other one. Title issues? He also has a 87 FJ60. It has over 100K miles but it also has a speedo that reads 99,999.9 miles. The 76 I bought from Blair only shows 4,500 on the speedometer. No way to prove there are original miles. The floor mats don't look like they have a 104,500 miles and it is rust free. All three of the 40s appear to have rust.:meh:

no, I was referring to Bezel problems ;p

What is a good price for a 40 with a hard top if you don't care about years and period correct purism? It seems like some people just pick numbers out of a hat... I'm replacing the 80 with something that I can take the top off of and that has a nice body (sexy... can be dented). So that means first gen 4runner, 40 or Bronco... Yeah, I know.
The goal is something super cheap so that I can keep my 80 chassis and throw something else on top. It's too nice for me to part with it. My only complaint about an 80 (other than not having a v8) is that the body is just not that good looking. It's the only Land Cruiser I would call bland. Anyway. Any thoughts?

I think I am following: You want to mount a different body on the 80 that looks better / different that you can dent up?

Would you go to all that work , expense, and time just to dent it all up? up to you of course ...Maybe take the current body and do a "chevy avalanche" type or rear bed/sport cut? Those look decent :meh:

Im not sure of the vehicles you listed what would line up Wheelwell -wise , etc?

Sorry, I need a daily driver that fits kids for cheap so that I can drive it until the 80 chassis is mounted up to a 55 that would be converted to a lwb. That's the plan if I can win over the lady. Once the new body is on the 80, then I would be careful with it and I would treat her well. I just never cared about how the 80 looked, so I didn't mind the dents.
I was just wondering about prices on 40s. Why are they all over the board? I was looking at a full sized Bronco because its a basically a fatty first gen 4runner that you can pick up cheap. And I know, for good reason. but I have a special spot for my Fords too. If the 4runner was the same price though...

For the love of god, I hope you never try breeding animals.

I really don't understand what you are trying to achieve, but a 40 is not exactly suited to a daily driver or to fitting kids

if you can't afford the fuel for the 80, buy a cheap Honda beater for daily driving - it has 4 doors so the kids can actually get in and out by themselves (which is practically impossible in a 40)

Good luck building your FJ120 or FJ135. Sounds interesting! I recently read about an FJ142 (62 body on 80 running gear) in 4WDTO magazine. They said those go for $120K to $140K! Sounds like a lot of work...

If you really want to annoy Claudia, flip the bezel when your done :)

I don't care about gas. Just that car seats fit, it has AC, and its a cool rig that I can take the top off of. I would love a first gen Celica for mpgs... but that's not going to happen sadly.

car seats don't fit in a stock 40 - and even if you have a rear bench, it's typically not set up for car seats - just sayin' :meh:
