V8 has a lot of changes that can be undone, but it is all a lot of work.

I would rebuild the 2F and fuel inject it while you are there. You will be happy.

well Marshall if you don't go with the V8 lemme know and I'll take it for when I finally build a trail only truck.

I have a buddy who rebuilds race engines and would be willing to help me rebuild it. And I have another buddy who has a 350 out of a 69 camaro with 300hp iron heads that he is willing to sell me for 150 dollars. I don't know what to do.

Don't be misled by a $150 engine. Assuming it doesn't need a rebuild (if it's used I'd rebuild it while it was out) - and I know you're already factoring in motor mounts, bellhousings, all the front accessories, headers and exhaust, flywheels, clutches and drive shaft mods - but besides all that $$$ don't forgot the benefit of just that is weight - after that plan on spending more money on a 4 row aluminum radiator for cooling plus maybe a push fan and custom shroud and the real reason for a conversion - Fuel Injection.

That being said the 2F/FI/HEI via DUI is the best option and bang for the buck. Unless you're got tons of money to throw at a late model chevy with a 700R4 and adapters...

Now - since you can't afford that V8 conversion, I'd like to pick that $150 motor up in May :flipoff2:.

Where's Hard40? He is slowly being corrupted into the dark side. He is planning FI for the Blue Ox soon.

A little late but here! Fuel injection came today in a box from AFI. Will be starting install ASAP. Best bet Troll is a professionally rebuilt 2-F. I'll cost you less than the conversion and its all the power a 40 needs. Nothing wrong with a 350 but I think you could rebuild what you have and add TBI for less cost. Of course the power of a EFI 350 is awesome.

hey, quick rebuild question...

so if i want a new cam, i need to replace my lifters...

but if i replace the pushrods, i'm not required to replace the lifters...

i can never remember which way it goes...

thanks,

tough choice

There is no sound like a grunting F series chugging down a trail.
With that said, if my old F ever blew up I might go ...GASP...
V-8. I'm a sucker for horsepower and those Chevy small blocks
gave me wonderful childhood memories. So did a big old torque
monster big block Pontiac. I LOVED launching cars in tire smoke.
It was soooo cool! Horsepower RULES! :grinpimp:

New Cam, New Lifters
New Pushrods, No new Lifters

Hows the rebuild going?

well...i'm done 'unbuilding' it, ha ha.

got the head done, now i'm waitin on some money to start puttin it the rest of it back together.

any idea where i can get some quality lifters for less than the 260 that rick needs for a set?
i'm all about gettin stuff from toyota, and if those are the best then i guess i'll just wait til i get the money, but if there are other options out there...

Man-A-Fre has got 'em.
I've bought 'em
Have no Regrets

Good Shopping!

so could i get a machine shop to regrind the faces on my lifters?
and then get a new cam and be okay?

nothing against your advice, but me and man-a-fre didn't part on such good terms after my last purchase...

thanks,

You could try an automotive machine shop. I haven't thought of that tac. Maybe worth a look.

Hijackers:flipoff2:

I have made a decision. No V-8. Just too much money. I'd be looking into 1300 in parts and labor to to rebuild the engine and 1000 for the bell housing and then a ton of time and parts for motor mounts and all the other crap.

So I decided to do the 2FE conversion and rebuild my engine. I have all the parts except the rebuild kit. I'm going to strip the 3fe head this weekend and get it to the machine shop. We shall see how it goes.
