That funnel might be even older than the lantern.

Congrats on such a nice example. Just my opinion, but 242B and C make the best running, practical user lanterns.

There should be a date on it, either under the fount stamping or on the bottom. It should look like- 9 49.

Found this at an auction house. Looks pretty new. It had the box too

Now that, is a nice lantern. Great brass or copper funnel too.

I would trade you a couple of 220s for it if you want to keep the family tradition alive!!

I can almost promise you that is a late 1949 or early 1950. It was the end of the 242 production.

More seriously, that's awesome, near mint condition.

Could you get a pic of the globe logo? I think that whole lantern is original.

Drew, I finally got a pic of the globe last night which looks original. I also stand corrected on the "other" latern - seen in its dusty glory in the second picture. My guess at a 220 was wrong, it is actually a 228E model. Also shown is a one burner stove that has warmed up many a pot of Dinty Moore stew. What is not shown is a 2 burner Coleman stove.

That just confirms that 242 is a winner. Don't let that one get away, and if you use it camping(which you should), get a cheap new globe from Old Coleman Parts.

Your 228 is a "Tranny" the transition between E and F. It has the E vent and the F collar.

Cam is the 502 expert, great user stove for morning coffee.

Your dad made good choices

Thanks Drew, It is nice to share with others who appreciate the classic Coleman products. Great idea on using an replacement globe so I can use without worry.
There are many folks on here that are very knowledgeable in this area and make it interesting to learn about the Coleman facts and details.

Unfortunately, the other problem may be in the base of the fuel air tube, which may mean you need to unscrew the valve from the fount and clean it out really well, especially clearing the gunk from the tiny fuel intake tube at the bottom.
Thanks, Drew. I have it taken down to the fount and will pull the valve assembly this w/e

Whoo hooo!!!

Picking this up tomorrow!

I have to go check the back of my truck, I think you stole that from me.

Shhhhhh....

Only if a decoder ring is required..

It could translate each model and years produced..

And a handshake.. gotta be handshake..

What is the red wire in the lid for on that triple burner?

Towel holder :pimp:

Just bought a 513 today from a family in Oakland who inherited it from an uncle, doesn't look beat up just a few scratches here and there they never used it so they sold it to me today for $20 good deal IMO. As soon as i got home i poured some fluid in it and fired it up i also fired up the 220k that i bought not too long ago,it took a while to get the lantern to fire up but once it did it doesn't want to stop. Pics for your 20150513_183534.webp 20150513_183606.webp 20150513_184853.webp 20150513_191402.webp 20150513_193310.webp entertainment,LOL.
